Has anyone successfully archived a snap shot of their Time Machine backup via a disk image (.dmg) using the Tiger (OSX 10.4.11) Disk Utility?

I ask because Mavericks has damaged my Time Machine external drive so that it can no longer be mounted (let alone verified/repaired) by either Snow Leopard (10.6.8) or Mavericks (10.9) on my MacBook Pro. Fortunately, Tiger (10.4.11) on my PowerBook G4 can still mount (and verify) this external drive.

Note: This question is not about whether it is possible (or how to) archive a snap shot of a Time Machine backup to a .dmg via Disk Utiltiy in OS X 10.6.8 or 10.9. I already know this works. This question is just whether Disk Utility in 10.4.11 can do the same thing.
