    That's really sad.

I must honestly say I am stuck with Apple because most of my work is done on a Linux/Unix workstation and moving data and  code (scientific programming) is easier between Unix/Linux and OS X instead of say Unix/Linux and Windows. And no I do not have time to get a crappy Linux running on a laptop which would be unuseable anyway for more than just doing scientific prohramming.

But after reading all the problems with Apple hardware over the years and their tacticts when it comes to honouring the warranty makes me really feel sick.

I therefore have stopped recommending Apple products as long as one is happy with Windows.

People pay a premium to Apple and get a **** load of crap in return.

Not to hijack the thread, but have you considered running Unix/Linux in a virtual machine on the Mac and doing the programing in that?

No. But I am happy with the current arrangement. I do a lot of code testing and LateX writing on the Macbook Pro Retina 15".

When working from home I sometimes use the NX client while login from OSX into our workstations/supercomputers.

Linux is okay for programming but useless for the desktop. I cannot live without "Spotlight" and "Quick Look" anymore. That alone is a reason one would prefer OS X over anything else. And no  there is no alternative on Linux that I am aware of which does the same what Quicklook and Spotlight does.

Used Windows the last time 13 years ago (I think it was Windows NT) so cannot comment on it anymore and how it would stack up and feel compared to OS X. But I miss Sun Solaris OS.

My brother did the 10 minutes test and everything seems to be fine.

His model is a 13" Macbook Pro Retina late 2013.

    His screen maker: 0000A020

But jury is still out there and what and  who correlates with A020.

macbook pro retina late 2013 1 november production (44 week)

    LG LP154WT1-SJE1 model

no problems with ir, and i not see any yellowish(only on black screen in dark- very very little in left down corner and purple in right up corner), uniformity in general ok

but on max not bright at all! comfort but if can be brighter-> more white color

so I work only on max(on evening and night) or max or 1-2 value less(in daytime), but mostly on max. i think it's not good brightness at all cause i compare with ips(nec pa241w, 20wgx2 or macbook air-all are brighty). I found anandtech review of 20% less brightness of retina and 1 review also mentioned that.

How is brightness or your lg/samsung retina's? cause i saw 2 lg machines- 1 with same brightness and yellowish and another(as per foto of person from forums) is bright enough and he works at 50-60-70% of max. and 1 person with samsung one-great brightness, couldn't work at max.

i think situation with samsung screens better in term of brightness?

And how is SJE2? i saw people on forum with this new model of screen with diff. opinion.  i have SJE1 and it's ok i general but not so good in terms of brightness(low brightness, only on max is normal). i plan to change it.

Hi guys, I bought rMBP 13" 10 days ago, shall I try to swap it out or at least replace the screen?

The issue is not critical and I never noticed it in daily use. But I am afraid of progressing this yellow tint issue in the future.

    LP154WT1-SJE1

    DCN336109CDFD4NAQ

But i have test it to Image Retention and i have seen nothing. I have made a test with a chess motive with max birghtness. I have give them 50 Minutes. But after it i have seen nothing from image Retention problem. But can i think now that all is ok or will the problem later comes to my MB? I have the late 2013 now 2,5 weeks.

I'm really, REALLY, hoping that Apple has fixed this issue with the SJE1 series of LG panels. Only time will tell though. If the SJE1 panels still have no IR by spring 2014, then I'll start believing.

I just wanted to let you know about my experience with the new MacBook Pro Retina. I bought in in Mid 2012 and never had any problems until 2 weeks ago. I noticed that the browser and the desktop have been burned into the screen and it was visible when the login screen was shown.

Of course I also checked what kind of display my machine had, and of course it was a crappy LG.

I created an appointment with the local Apple Store in Zurich Switzerland. The employee was super friendly and when I showed him the problem he said "Oh that looks terrible". He ran a display test (the one with the black and white chess field) and the result was clear, the ghosting was visible.

He told me that my warranty expired 5 month ago but I don't have to pay anything because it is a known problem. They would do it through the consumer law. I don't really know what he meant. The repair cost would have been 660 CHF.

The computer is now waiting for a new display and it takes about 2 weeks until they are done.

I am really positivelly surprised by their customercare.

    Thank you very much Apple!
