Nov 19, 2013 5:05 PM in response to Richs79by pem64,I never installed a restricted password. But I inadvertently turned the restrictrd lock on without using a password.
Then I could not turn it off without a password I never set up.
I tried my current screen lock password and it wasn't accepted.
I discovered through trials of a few password, that the restricted password is the same as screen password that was active at the moment IOS7 was installed.
I changed mine after IOS7 and promply forgot the old one.
After several tries, success.
The restricted password screen was unlock with my old IOS6 screen password.
Now does anyone know how to change the restricted password?

Nov 21, 2013 1:18 PM in response to pem64by zephkatiouf,...... does anyone know how to change the restricted password?
in my device at least: if you disable first the restrictions (inside "Restrictions") the ipad forgets the password and if you later activate the restrictions the device will ask you to provide a (new) password ...

Nov 21, 2013 5:01 PM in response to gilsonmeloby MillValleyiMacG5,It seems like somewhere between 7.0 and 7.0.4, they introduced a new resource (located in in the same folder as springboard.plist) called com.apple.restrictionspassword.plist. This holds a key with encrypted values and the OS now seems to ignore the entry in springboard.plist (and deleting the restrictedpassword.plist resource doesn't seem to do the trick either).
I put a restriction code on another iphone to see if I copied these over to the original one with the lock, the key would also be transfered. And it seems to work!
Making the following changes (in bold) to the restrictedpassword.plist changed my key to 1234:
...
<dict>
<key>RestrictionsPasswordKey</key>
<data>
IxxWEBikzuZi33zUqCBnAcWAavk=
</data>
<key>RestrictionsPasswordSalt</key>
<data>
aSbUXg==
</data>
</dict>
Hope this helps and good luck.

Nov 25, 2013 10:53 AM in response to MillValleyiMacG5by rickwookie,Oh this HAS to be a bug, not a forgotten password!
I just tried this to sort out my wifes iPhone 4 (I was blaming her for forgetting what she set her restrictions code as), and I found the com.apple.restrictionspassword.plist file so I tried the encrypted info you gave, but after the restore, it was actually the code I entered in com.apple.springboard.plist under SBParentalControlsPIN that was the code that allowed my to access the restrictions section in settings and turn Restrictions off.
HOWEVER as soon as I went to Settings>Reset>Reset All Settings (which is what I was trying to do in the first place after I read it may help to speed up the dog slow response of iOS7 on the iPhone 4) I was asked again for the Restrictions Passcode (even though I'd turned Restrictions off at this point) and sure enough, neither the correct code nor 1234 would work! Again!!!
Now restrictions is switched back on again and I can no longer access it.
Somehow I think the settings reset is wiping the restrictions code, then resetting restrictions (defaulting?) to ON. Since there's no SBParentalControlsPIN entry any more to match to, you can never have the correct code.

Nov 29, 2013 8:36 AM in response to Richs79by Mmeabk,I just updated to iOS 7 on my 4s and encountered the restrictions passcode, which I didn't have turned on previously. I tried the various passcodes offered here to unlock it (0000,1234,5555) without any luck. However, I tried the VERY FIRST PASSCODE I ever used on this phone and it worked!
I didn't have to wipe the phone or anything, I was able to unlock it with that original passcode. I hope this works for others too.

Nov 30, 2013 8:27 AM in response to MillValleyiMacG5by aleksisthecyclist,I had been going through all the springboard.plist changes and resetting my iPad repeatedly, I entered your code and was able to use the '1234' passcode to turn off restrictions. Thank you! I can finally purchase magazines for my iPad again.

Nov 30, 2013 9:15 AM in response to MillValleyiMacG5by VeggyMight,I tried restoring my iPad using the changes suggested by both gilsonmelo and MillValleyiMacG5. After restore, I am able to use the '1234' passcode to access Restrictions and disable it. However, when I leave Settings and then come back, Restrictions has been magically turned on again and no passcode that I know will work.
Any suggestions?
