Nov 20, 2013 10:32 PM in response to ericfrominby Vandergraff,You can check the kbps on this title 'Example Short 23.976' (search for this on Netflix). It embeds the actual stream kbps you are receiving.

As Vandergraff said, find the movie on Netflix and play it.
But turn down your speakers because it also contains loud test sounds!

Nov 21, 2013 5:36 AM in response to DustyStormby bodosom,Holding everything else constant* my ATV3,1 can get 5,800 but usually not, while my TiVo nearly always gets 5,800 but sometimes not. I have no direct experience with anything but the 6.0.2/7.0.4 software but it looks like the rate adjusting code in the last release is too sensitive. It's much more likely to get above 3,000 kbps in the morning or when there's only a single stream than in the evening or when there are two streams.
Perhaps the next code drop (6.1?) will address this issue.
*Wired connections to the same switch, simultaneous or immediately after, same Netflix server IP address with a 50Mb downstream connection from Time Warner using the instrumented Netflix clip.

Nov 21, 2013 5:47 AM in response to DustyStormby Sparty07,Last night I noticed some minor changes to the Netflix UI on ATV. Progress bars for individual shows or titles, and header changes on the menu. Anyone else see those? However the quality issues persist. I was able to get a little higher on kbps, but still nowhere near 5800.
And perviously I was able to get full HD on my iPad and airplay it to the ATV, but now I'm seeing the quality drop on the iPad app too.

Nov 21, 2013 11:06 PM in response to Vandergraffby DustyStorm,Still horrid for me too. Starting to get angry about this. Netflix keeps telling me it's my internet (which I know it's NOT) and Apple keeps telling me it's Netflix. It's been days now - we are overdue for a fix on SOMEONE'S end.

Nov 22, 2013 3:59 AM in response to DustyStormby Markel51,I was sure the culprit was the latest update to the Apple TV software, so I switched to watching the PS3 (hard wired).
Last night at 8:30 PM EST I got 240 Kbps on the PS3 too!! The Apple TV was no better, of course, but no worse either. Checked Speedtest. No problem. 50Mbps.
It's Netflix afterall. Must be related to the new interface. Other streaming content looked fine.

Nov 22, 2013 6:10 AM in response to Vandergraffby ericfromin,Me to, apt 750 kbps, apple wants to send me a new APT. But all oter aps work ferfect but dont know how to check bitrate on anything else but netflix. Since Markel51 has the same problem on other devices im not so sure a new ATV will fix it. I also called netflix a couple of days ago and yelled at them.

Nov 22, 2013 10:37 AM in response to ericfrominby Tony Ramirez,I have not touched my ATV for Netflix and I can't believe I am saying this but the Roku 3 is more reliable. ATV was flawless until 2 weeks ago and the problem started while using 6.0.1.

Nov 22, 2013 11:17 AM in response to Tony Ramirezby Markel51,Everybody is complaing about Netflix. Roku forum too. It isn't limited to the Apple TV.
Examples:

It may, however, be limited to certain geographic areas.

Nov 22, 2013 11:24 AM in response to DustyStormby shimmy20,I just wanted to say that I am having the same issues as everyone else with my Apple TV. It is connected to my router via an ethernet cable. I watch Netflix pretty much every day in the evening at about 8-10 PM Central, and for the last couple of weeks, the quality has been really bad. 750 kbps on the Example Short.
I have a fast internet connection, around 20 Mbps down. My PS3 has consistently been great during this time, streaming at 1080 Super HD when it's available for that title. (On the PS3, you can press Select to see the streaming quality).
My iPad has been getting better speeds than my Apple TV, and I think my iPhone has been as well. I'm not at home so I can't give exact figures or anything.
By the way, through watching the Example Short 23.976 that everyone is using, I found some interesting tidbits worth checking out. For example, there is a guy moonwalking holding a laptop at about 3:50. The same guy starts quoting Julius Caesar at about 7:00, and then makes popping noises with his mouth at about 8:02. Oh and there's juggling at around 6:30

Nov 22, 2013 11:41 AM in response to ericfrominby Markel51,I should have noted, again, that the problem I'm describing is during prime time hours and last night it affected both the ATV and PS3. Checked again just now, and both hit 5800 kbps on the test video. I did, however, notice that the PS3 ramped up to that speed fairly quickly, while the ATV took much longer. FWIW.
