Q: Black screen Power button.

Hi!

I move to Maverick from Lion and I believe there's a little change with the power button. Once I push the Power button, the screen goes black but it doesn't shut down or give me the choices (restart, shut down ,etc). When you push it again, the screen comes alive again.

My problem is the next one :

When I push a little longer on the button to get the choices of shutting down or restarting the macbook pro, it gives me a different black screen. My mouse is still visible but the rest of the screen is black.

The only thing I can do, at this stage, is to force the shut down of the mac. It's a little detail but it's really annoying! Somebody got a solution?

Thanks,

Ben.

I have exactly the same problem on my 2007 MacBook Pro.

And yes, I have read the support page that macjack referred to, but... I don't see how that explains (or solves) the problem that BenThouin (and myself) experienced.

Namely, that after pressing the power button for around the 1.5 secs, I don't get the dialog box, but the screen goes almost completely black, except for the mouse pointer which is still visible (and can be moved). Pressing the power button again does not help, nor does any other keypress.

The funny thing is that I just tried the eject key, so my DVD popped out, and when I put back the DVD, it started playing it, in a way... I heard the sound from the dvd menu, and for a fraction of a second it looked like some windows were moving out of the way, pushing the dvd app into fullscreen mode, but the dvd app showed only black as well. So it appears like OSX is blacking out whatever it would normally want to display.

The only way to get rid of this issue for me now, is to hard shut down the machine,, which I really don't like doing. Does anyone have a solution?

    Regards,

    Martijn

It just happened to me again, and the problem sort of fixed itself... Here's what I did:I closed the lid of the MBPro, and when I opened it after, say, a minute, the screen came back normal. Now pressing the power button for 1.5 secs actually does what it should do.

    Hope this helps others.
