Just downloaded iOS7 for my iphone 4.  I never had a passcode, but when it asked me to make it (after installing iOS7) i dont know why, but I created a passcode.  In all of my excitement to use iOS7 i totally forgot the passcode I used.  I am now locked out of my phone and my device is disabled.  Please help me to unlock my phone, I cannot remember my passcode!

I have never backed up my iphone to a computer... by restoring it will I lose everything on my phone?  Or is there a way that i can back it up first then restore without knowing the passcode?

You can try backing it up in itunes, but if it is not the original computer that was used to set it up then it wont work.  If it is the original computer, import all photos, transfer purchases in itunes ect.  Other than that all data will be lost

But, if you have iOS 7 Activation Lock turned on, you can't restore your device without the passcode. It looks like my iPad 3 is now a paperweight.

OMG okay so first things first. DONT try and reset your iPhone. This works for iPad too. My iPod was disabled cause my sister tried to get into it. She only had to try 5 times. I thought it would go back in 5 mins but then, it had been like 2 hours and hadn't gone back. I was like so stressed so I searched it up and it told me to reset my iPod but I have so many things so I thought there HAS TO be something else I could do. I would try whatever came to mind. So then I turned off my iPod completely and turned it back on. It was perfectly back to normal and I was so relieved. I have only tried it on my iPod once. But I tested it out on my sisters iPad taking the risk and just hoping. It worked. I really hope it works for you and anyone else with this problem. I hope it works for everyone else:)

What is normal?  Not disabled and asking for your passcode that you already know?  If so, this is a different issue.  This is about having a passcode requirement and we don't know what the passcode is so we are unable to get in.  Eventually yes, we have our devices go into disable mode, but resetting only gets us back to the code we still don't know.

I also keep seeing replies recommending a restore through iTunes.  As mentioned above, iTunes requires you to turn off Find My iPad before it will restore which means everyone is stuck!  I've seen quite a bit of chatter today on this topic so hopefully Apple will figure out a fix soon...or someone else out there will maybe stumbled on something.

I dunno what made me want to put a passcode on my iPhone 5 running iOS7. I have completely forgotten the passcode and now the phone is disabled. It allows you to punch in the code every now and then but iTunes won't let you restore without turning off the 'Find my iPhone' option from the iPhone itself. How on earth to do that without knowing the correct passcode? I am in Sri Lanka so I have no way of getting in touch with Apple either.

    Someone please help :-(

I have not upgraded to OS7 yet but my mother in law did and she ran into this issue as well.  Apparently when upgrading you will be asked for a 4 digit passcode for Find My iPhone.  My mother in law thought it was asking for her Apple password so she typed it in.  She had the passcode issue and then her iPad was disabled as well.  After a while she was able to attempt it again.  We had her try the first 4 digits of her Apple password and it worked.  Just thought I would throw that out there in case others did the same thing with the passcode entry request at time of upgrade.  I have still not seen a way to restore if Find My iPhone is turned on.  Good luck!

Hi Guys, I decided not to do anything rash and just try to get in touch with Apple and I am happy to say IT WORKED!!! my phone is fine and I followed their instructions and restored the device.

You need to start the phone in Recovery mode. The way to do this is, unplug your USB cable from your computer and turn off your iPhone. Then you want to hold the home button on your iPhone and plug the USB cable back to your computer (make sure iTunes is open and is running the latest version) you want to keep holding the home button until a message pops up on iTunes saying the phone is in Recovery mode. Now you can let go of the home button. After this, you can click on the restore iPhone button and it will start downloading a fresh copy of iOS.

    Things you need to know:

. My phone had a service warranty remaining when I contacted Apple through chat.

. I can't say with certainty that they did something remotely through their servers.

. If you backed up your iPhone earlier, you can restore the backup after the phone is recovered.

. If you have a iOS7 .ipsw file downloaded to your computer, you can forego the iOS download and point to the .ipsw by pressing (shift) and locating the file (windows)

Good luck! and I hope this helped.

Chanimin's advice worked for me. I didn't forget my passcode--it just stopped working. I noticed Siri wasn't working, so I rebooted my iPhone 5s and when that was done, I couldn't use my thumbprint to login and my 4-digit passcode wouldn't work either. Tried turning off the phone and rebooting again but nothing helped until I followed directions to restore in iTunes. It took a while to get my backup on my iPhone, but it seems fine now. It is lucky I was home and not on vacation!
