Welcome to the Support Communities!
I'm not sure if you followed the steps below when you moved your iTunes library to the external hard drive.
With these changes in the advanced preferences menu of iTunes, your iOS devices should be able to access the library.

thanks for your reply. I used that page as a reference when I moved my itunes. The itunes itself is working fine to play music and to use with my apple tv's, as it did before on my hard drive. However, now the itunes will no longer recognize any of my apple devices (ipods, iphones, & ipad 2), so that I can sync to add and remove music and apps.
Thanks again, Rog

My itunes is now picking up my iphone. Except, now itunes is missing a lot of songs and says "it cannot locate them". I'm guessing when I put itunes on the external harddrive, I did something wrong. I followed the steps listed on that page. It says it cannot locate over 1000 items (songs, PDF files, books, etc.). I managed to go back and find 10 ringtones that I had purchased on itunes. Hopefully, there is an easier way to locate all of the items. Because, I do not have the time, nor patience to find each item manually. Any suggestions? Thanks again.
