Q: SOLUTION: Some Music Won't Play After Upgrading Your iPhone To iOS7

After upgrading to iOS 7, some of you, including me, started having an issue where some of your songs refuse to play on your iPhones and iPods. There was also a red square inside of a red circle next to the song which I guess, was adding to the problem of the songs not playing. I had no idea what the issue was, so I searched and searched but came out with no solution to this annoying problem. Until last night. I was just messing around in the settings app and discovered that it was neither iTunes 11 nor iOS 7 that was the cause of this problem. It's all a matter of how the settings in your iPhone or iPod are set up. Follow these instructions to get your songs working again!

Step 1: Go to the "Settings" app on your Springboard (iPhone or iPod)

Step 2: Scroll down to the "iTunes & App Store" category.

Step 3: Where it says "Automatic Downloads", turn off the "Music" slider.

Step 4: Sync and enjoy playing ALL of your music!

It took me a while to figure this out, but I'm glad that I can help you guys. Have a great day!

Thanks everyone - I evenually did web chat with apple staff (3 hours!!!) Still they were very patient and polite. I had to restore the phone as new and erase everything with my photos, contacts and music backed up to the cloud.

Looks like this is the only thing you can do. Actually its not too bad you just lose your text messages and call logs and things like alarm settings but they are not too bad to reset!

I would reccommend the web chat it is great and free.

It's in get support on the apple website

    All the best

    Vinsey

I had this problem on my iPhone 4s where only the songs that I had downloaded directly from iTunes played, but for whatever reason it's began fixing itself. When I plugged in my phone to my iMac and went onto iTunes, on the "On This Phone" section, all my music that wasn't playing (Had a red square) beside it was in a dull gray with a dotted circle where the tick selection should be. The dotted circle began to fill on each song and began redownloading to my phone again!

However, my recently added music (not downloaded from iTunes store) still isn't going to my music which started happening just before any of this,

Im sorry, but I've tried all proposed solutions mentioned here, but none of all didn't work !

I had no problem at all on my previous 4S with IO 7.0.2 , but since last week I get my brand new 5S with IO 7.0.4 & its only a mess to sync all my music on this phone

Just make sure you do a backup of your phone first so you can restore all of your contacts, etc. after you do the restore.

After you follow the solution, resync the music files...I noticed it started to load and then i pressed play. It started to play while syncing the rest of the song on my Ipad2.

Thanks!  After reading many Apple posts on this same subject, your response was spot on.  I now have all my music back on my iPhone, not just some songs.

I am going to make this easy for everyone... all i had to do was go to Settings > click General > click Reset > click Reset All Settings. After the iphone has reset, sync your phone with itunes and the songs should be working again. easy.
