Q: Face Time incompatability

My daughter has moved to U of O and I want to keep in touch via FaceTime.  I have a MacBook 10.7.5 that was upgraded with more RAM and a new display, and it has FaceTime 1.1.1 installed.  My daughter has the latest MacBook, and is using FaceTime 2.0.  My son has the latest IPod Touch (Generation 5 IOS 7.)  I don’t know what is running on his device.  I cannot connect to either of them.  I attempted to downgrade to 1.0.2; however, the app site refuses to load it (it says that my computer is too new!)  So far, I count three versions: 1.0.2, 1.1.1, and 2.0. Any help? Note: Maverick was installed, and I didn't try Face Time after the upgrade.
