Q: iCal missing appointments

Hello,

We have a 10.7.4 Lion server running iCal server with ca. 20 users. A 10.7.4 client with a MacBook air missed an appointment in it's local iCal. The iPhone had the appointment, the iPad had the appointment and also a central iMac run by the secretary had the appointment.

We use push for the iCal clients, but after refreshing iCal manually on the MacBook Air it didn't appear also.

I searched the logfiles on the server and the client for the name of the appointment and also the filename of the appointment. I found nothing so far.

We had some major iCal server issues in the past and now the lack of trust in the calendering system is fully back again after this instance of appointments not synchronizing.

I'm searching for a cause to help me preventing this from happening again.

Any input about where I can find the cause of an appointment not synchronising with a computer?

Thanks in advance,

Cor

Having done a search of this forum, it seems that this question is met by a wall of silence from Apple.

I have an iCal service running on a mountain lion server.  I can reach the service both over the local LAN and over the internet using iOS devices (iphone 4s and ipad).

However, when I view appointments using the iCal client an iMac (mountain lion) on the LAN, I see very odd behaviour.  Nearly every time I force a refresh of two calendars hosted on the server, appointments disappear. Another refresh and they may or may not reappear, with yet more appointments disappearing.

Whilst a number of people seem to have been complaining of this issue for 6 years or more, I do not see anything coming back by way of an explaination (or solution).

    In iCal, try the following.

    Preferences

Select the OS X Server account.

Uncheck "Enable this account".  - at this point you will see all appointments disappear from iCal for that calendar.

Now check "Enable this account". - I have found that this seems to bring back all missing appointments.

Of course this is only a workaround and there would appear to be a bug either in the client software

Sadly, after some further checks, there are still some appointments missing, so the above workaround is not 100 per cent reliable.
