    Hi all

Thought I would share my experience. I too had the greyed out Wi-Fi issue with my phone. Luckily I bought the handset in January this year so it is still in warranty with Apple.

I let the issue slide for a while, thinking it might be a software error and that an update would fix it, but after two months without Wi-Fi enough was enough and I contacted Apple support and ended up getting an appointment at one of their retail stores.

The guy was friendly and all, he tested the phone and confirmed it was a hardware error. He did a straight swap and I was happy, finally resolved!

Fast forward three weeks and my new 4S has again greyed out on the Wi-Fi. Did the usual rigmarole... reset network settings and did a factory reset through iTunes like they advise on their support pages but with no luck. Contacted Apple support and was told that there is now a new "engineer's trick" to fix this problem and was also told, after looking at my phone's Wi-Fi address, that it was "not a hardware but a software error", that she was "pleased to confirm that the hardware is fine" and that by doing the steps she would give the "firmware for my Wi-Fi chip will be updated". She made me place my iPhone into reset mode, download iOS 7.04 again, and reinstall the software. We said our goodbyes and I crossed my fingers.

I had hope but also some misgivings. This software I was downloading has the exact same version number as the one I already have on it, so how would this fix my phone? Regardless, it didn't fix my phone, firmware "update" or not.

I'm left slightly frustrated but determined to not let this lie. This is a clear issue with the 4S and the latest iteration of their iOS software. I've got a call with Apple on Thursday and no doubt another visit to the retail store. I will be sure to update you all on here with what happens this time around.

    Tom

Apple offer a fix?  They haven't even acknowledge it (the wifi issue after iOS7) and in fact have been soaking customers into buying new phones!  What a joke -

Mine still working after the hair dryer/refrigerator/restart trick...day 2.5.

tom please do. I have paid a lot for the phone and now I cant even use right, I dont have enough money to and get it fixed, I am hoping this is a software error, I used the dryer method and it work for only 20 min and then Greyed out again. so the hardware is working fibe but its not conneted to the software i guess.

Been ok for a month now? The hair dryer video is only a month old. Were you one of the first people to see it?

Wow! No petitions will ever be enough for apple to admit a mistake. Jack E just posted a link to a petition and Apple immediately removed his post. They obviously don't care to hear from their customers. Android for me from here on out.

Well after replaceing both WIFI Antennas in my iphone 4s today after weeks of no wifi after ios 7 update, still no Wifi..I've tried every fix and reset known to man before I replaced parts in phone..My wifi isn't greyed out, it just doesnt detect my router or any routers local to me..Several bolt ons later at £3 a pop that don't even last a day ?? I'd given up all hope..Thought I'd try the TRENT Hair dryer fix as I'd tried everything else apart from putting in the freezer of course or the oven on gas mark 3..

1.I heated phone until I got the Temperature warning. 2. Turned off phone straight after the warning..3 Put in the fridge not the freezer for 15 mins..4 Turned on phone waited while it searched and found my network provider and 3G. 5 Went into settings turned wifi on.......And guess what ??? IT  WORKED.!!!! ..It found my router and local routers. !!!!! I had to put my password in again..It connected showed a tick, but still no wifi icon on phone..Here's the important bit..Next to the name of your router once selected there is a small circle with the letter " i " in it..Press it. It will ask you do you want to renew your lease..I pressed yes and nothing happened..I did this several times..Turns out all I had to do was go into aeroplane mode for 3 secs and back out and now everything working absolutely perfect as it did before the ios 7 upgrade..Full wifi with wifi logo..I want to say a big Thank you to TRENT for this FIX !! Big respect from me..I'm a happy apple user once again...Thanks again mate...

Like the other hundreds of thousands of people I too experienced the greyed out wifi. After trying every "fix" recommended I then took my iPhone into the Genius Bar. I had 17 days left of my warranty and they swapped my phone for a brand new iPhone 4s. I activated the phone via the Apple Wi-Fi whilst in store took it home and guess what? WIFI GREYED OUT. I have bought Apple products for years, iBook G4, Macbook Air, iPads, iPods, iPhones. I will never, ever buy another Apple product again.
