Q: I have a problem with safariDAVclient(9067) keeps opening and hogging memory, happened on new iMac after trying to transfer data with carbonate. Cant use safari anymore.

I tried to transfer data from my macbook pro to my new iMac using Carbonite which has been my online back up for three years. The data was not completely backed up and now when I use Safari I start to lag as my memory gets over loaded. safariDAVclient(9067) opens and seems to cause in turn kernal_task to hog all available memroy and everything grinds to a halt. I have had to download and use Firefox for web browsing while I try to resolve this issue.

Any suggestions?

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9)

If you still have the MBP, start over and transfer the data in Setup Assistant:

 

OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mavericks

 

"Carbonite" should be used, if at all, only as a last-resort secondary backup, not as your primary backup.

    No change, everything runs fine if I log in as guest user it's just when I sign in with my ID. I have nothing crucial on it yet as it is only a couple of weeks old and I have everything backed up. Is there a way to delete and reboot my user ID?

    If you restore everything from a backup, you'll be in the same position you're in now.

    Thanks for your help, I have the iMac re-installing Mavericks right now. I am consigning Carbonite to the trash. I have seperate external HDs for both MBP & iMac and back up info between the two. I will be more selective when transfering data once OS X M is done installing.

    I have the same problem I recently bought a new iMac and restored my files from Carbonite which were on my old Mac and perodically SafariDAVclient eats up all the memory and crashes the Mac. I have unintalled Carbonite that does not work.

     

    Is there a fix for this situation? Its really frustrating having to keep restating the Mac.

     

    Did re-installing Mavericks work?

    I have been having the same problem with Safari hogging a lot of memory and, eventually, dragging the computer speed down to almost nothing.  I ran the following in Terminal:  

    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 -o -acl \) 2> /dev/null | wc -l

    as you suggested another reader with a similar problem.  The response I got was 31329. 

     

    This has been going on for quite some time so I have had to use other browsers: Opera and FireFox.  Do you have any recommendations?  Thanks.
