Thanks - this was the solution to my problem synching an iPhone 5s with OS 7.  Whatever the root cause is, Apple hasn't fixed it in the intreval since the original post.

Just amazing that they have left such a conspicuous problem without a patch for so long.

since you seem to know what to do hopefully you can help me. I believe my ipod 5th gen is hopefully now synced but I still cant update or purchase any aps? my itunes only shows my daughters ipod asthe only device so I couldnt try the delete backup on mine.

Ipod iOS5 "Failed to sync because sync session failed to start".  We fixed the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes.

This worked like a charm! It was going to drive me crazy! Thank you!
