If so were you able to determine what the problem was?

Nov 21, 2013 9:44 PM in response to Fanatik333by Fanatik333,I don't understand why Apple has to make a simple task so complicated. I feel like I'm on my windows pc again. Sorry but my grandma knows how to send me files to download I shouldn't have to spend hours troubleshooting, trying dozens of potential possibilities to simply download one file. I appreciate that this update is free but time isn't free.

Nov 23, 2013 4:45 AM in response to sophiaa_cby 2_KAPpy,I had similar problems trying to upgrade from 10.7.5 to Mavericks: the Mavericks icon was greyed out and the Download wasn't proceeding. This solution worked for me:
I figured out that the download was paused by going to the Launchpad, and finding the Mavericks icon, which said "Paused" underneath it (even though I don't recall pausing it myself). I then held my mouse down on the Mavericks icon until it started shaking, and then clicked the little 'x' to abort the download. I then went and plugged my MacBook Air directly into an ethernet cable, in order to have a much faster connection to the web, and restarted the download within the App Store. Again, the 'OS X Mavericks' listing in the Purchases section of the App Store turned gray, but in the Launchpad view, it showed 'Downloading' underneath the Mavericks icon and the available disk space (as viewed in the Finder window) was slowing decreasing.
I think the App Store is a bit buggy: it should properly indicate when it is actively downloading Mavericks, and should have a progress meter. It should also indicate when a download has been paused. The App Store should provide the ability to abort/restart/pause downloads.
The key to solving this was the realization that I could abort/restart the download via the Launchpad. The other key was not trying to download via the slower WiFi connection, but instead using the much faster Ethernet connection.

Nov 23, 2013 10:22 AM in response to 2_KAPpyby Fanatik333,Thank you for the reply that solution worked for me as well
And since I never use launchpad, I didn't realize I had to scroll all the way over to see that it was paused (after the download was interrupted). Just for the record, I was able to remove the greyed-out listing in the purchases tab by going to:
Store>View My Account
Manage (Hidden Purchases)
Unhid it from the list
But then the whole "purchases" page started flickering and glitching out all crazy haha.
This was my first time using the app store. It was buggy and challenging to figure out how to see the downloading progress, but overall I can't complain. I love my macbook and I'll never go back to windows again. Thanks again can't wait to try the new OS

Nov 27, 2013 8:10 AM in response to Gladiator1997by TheNerdGuy,This is NOT a solution but a workaround.
Create a new user, make it an admin account
- open the app store and sign in
-- download Mavericks, should go through this time and it will install system wide
--- after download delete the created account

Nov 27, 2013 6:04 PM in response to Gladiator1997by 2_KAPpy,My purchases tab was blinking/flickering while the downloading was going on. What does it say under the Mavericks' icon in the Launchpad: "Downloading" or "Paused"?

Nov 27, 2013 6:07 PM in response to bebemomoyby 2_KAPpy,I never saw any download percentage during the whole process. Unless your internet connection is very very fast, it can take a long time for the download to show any progress. The best way to check that the download is proceeding is to open a Finder window, do View -> Show Status Bar, and then watch to see if the available disk space is decreasing.

Nov 27, 2013 6:16 PM in response to 2_KAPpyby bebemomoy,It says downloading in launchpad. so I shouldn't be worried even if the purchases window is blinking?
