Q: Messages in Mountain Lion using email from contacts as iMessage and not Jabra

I am running Mountain Lion on my Macbook Pro.  I have tons of contacts in CONTACTS and all of them have email addresses.  Some of my contacts are reachable via iMessage and the other one via Google Talk.  The problem I am running into is that when I initiate a new iMessage session for my google talk contacts, the iMessage uses the email address from the CONTACTS and just gives me an option to do iMessage and not Google Talk/Jabber.  In order for me to initiate a Jabber sessions for my contacts in the CONTACTS, I have to specify each one of them as Jabber in CONTACTS, which is a pain, as I have several hundred of users.  What I am looking for is that when the iMessage uses the email from CONTACTS, it should give me an option or either iMessage or Jabber, and not just use iMessage.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

    Have you solved it?

My Messages worked fine with iMessage and Google Talk using Mountain Lion. Now that I "upgraded" to Mavericks, I am running into the problem you described: I see only the iMessage option when I open my contact list.

    Hi,

The way this work is that from the Address Card it will read the email  near the top as the iMessages potential contact details. (close to the iPhone Numbers you may also list)

Lower down you can edit the Messaging type IDs they may have.

If you don't list the Buddy's Screen Name or Jabber ID here then it will not show when you type their name
