On my Windows 8 PC, iTunes works fine until I try to open the iTunes store at which point the whole program crashes and Windows shuts it down while "checking for a problem", but there is no problem identified. I can reopen the program and everything is fine unless I try to open the store.

    Hi tml387,

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.

If iTunes is unresponsive and quits when you try to access the iTunes Store, start with these steps:

    Troubleshoot issues in Windows

If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store for more than a day (and other customers on our discussion boards aren't experiencing similar issues) a software or Internet service provider (ISP) configuration issue may be blocking your access to the iTunes Store. Find out which ports and servers need to be allowed for iTunes Store access.

If you still can't connect to the iTunes Store, your security software or firewall may be blocking the ability of iTunes to communicate with the Internet. Learn how to resolve security software issues.

You can find the full article with these steps here:

    Cheers,

I have the same problem with iTunes crashing from Windows 8 (8.1 in my case) every time.  On the same wireless network, my Macintoshes can access the store without issue, so it is not an ISP or router issue.  It's the software on Windows.

I am posting to confirm that there must be a software incompatibility issue between Windows 8.1 and iTunes.  I upgraded to 8.1 two days ago and have since been unable to access the iTunes store although iTunes itself continues to play music just fine.  Warning: after attempting to access the iTunes store several times my entire computer processing slowed down and the computer ceased to be able to successfully access the internet at all.  It took several restarts and eventually shutting off the laptop and pulling the battery out for several seconds before normal functioning was restored.

I've had the same issue with Windows 8 as well and the above post also fixed my issue.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!! I thought I would never get this fixed. What an annoying problem - and what an easy fix. Apple should post this on their main support page.
