I just updated itunes and when I plugged my phone in, suddenly my ringtones were gone.  They are on itunes, under my device, but 4/5 have an exclaimation mark next to them.  They will not play.  I cannot click the exclaimation mark to see what it's about.  They will not sync.  Apple seems impossible to get into contact with, I just want an asnwer!  ***?!

You should transfer ringtones to your iTune library. If you didin't, it's gone.

They are playable from iTune library = good

There are visible under iPhone > tones list but unplayable = normal.

    Did you check

iPhone's Settings > Sounds > Ringone > your ringtones should be at the top of the list.

The exclaimation mark means the path to the ringtones is not resolved. (Not found)

If they are all playable in computer iTunes library, try de-select sync then re-select and sync again with your iPhone connected and selected.

Yes, updating the IOS is a way to go (bugs fixes).

Settings > General > Software Update

Make sure you are connected to the wall power adapter and have Wi-fi connection.

BTW, what's the duration of those ringtones in seconds? (35 secs is max)
