Logging in on iTunes from my mac works perfectly fine. Logging in on Mac App Store from my mac, it says "An unknown error has occurred." EVERY TIME FOR MONTHS! I have tried to figure it out. I have tried resetting everything, and did that successfully (including changing all security information). It was verified. Why isn't the Mac Apple Store recognizing!?! This is extremely aggrivating...

My Apple ID and password work perfectly for the App Store and iTunes on my iphone and iPad. They also work perfectly for iTunes on both my PC and my Mac. However trying to access the App Store on my Mac (either for app purchases or for updates) does not work.
When entering my Apple ID and Password in that setting, i am told "An unkown error has occured". Its been going on for months.
I will reset everything and pick a new password and hope that works. But yes, its a VERY annoying bug.

I have a few Apple ID's and 2 of the ones I use most will not let me log in from my iMac...Steve, PLEASE COME BACK! Imagine the **** he would have created with the operational missteps that are going on now at Apple! Frustration is growing!

I can download and install free apps on my devices, but when I try to redeem a gift card (just purchased yesterday), I am repeatedly asked for my Apple ID **password**. The Apple ID is correct. The error message is NOT telling me that my password is incorrect -- just repeatedly telling me to enter it, as if I've hit the "done" (or 'okay' or whatever the button says) without having entered the password.
This happens on my iPad and on my Mac. I even did the "forgot my password" thing and simply re-entered the password I've been using all along. It accepted that -- and didn't even tell me I couldn't enter it because it had already been used.
I just installed a free game on my iPhone, and also installed a free app on the iPad -- so it works for that. But not for redeeming a card. I successfully redeemed a card or two a couple of months ago, so this is a new problem for me.
Grrrrrr.

Oct 22, 2013 1:15 PM in response to lama464by davva360,Just adding to this thread in the hopes someone at Apple will pick up on it. My Apple ID works on my ipad, iphone and ipod but will not work on the Mac App Store.
This has gone on for months. I have tried changing my password, I can successfully change it but it still does not work on the Mac.
Most FRUSTRATING thing of all is today marks the release of Maverick and I can not download a free OS update due to this issue.I am no longer able to make purchases on the Mac app store either but can on my other devices.
Hope this is solved soon.

I had been having similar problems - apple ID not signing in on App store on Mac but working for everything else - and the following simple steps solved this for me:
1. Go to Finder/MacintoshHD/Library/preferences/systemconfiguration
2. Drag the networkinterfaces.plist file to the trash
3. Restart computer

Dec 4, 2013 12:36 PM in response to lama464by wolfmajors,This happened to me too. I just got off the phone with Apple and it was an easy fix. On my iPad, double click the home button and close all of the open apps. Go to settings and click on iTunes store, click on your id, and click log out. Now log back in and everything should work. This should work on all devices. Good luck!
