Q: My macbook's performance is much worse since installing Mavericks

I have a 2011 Macbook Pro 2.2GHz, 4GB memory.  I have like 80gb free space on my computer.  I have repaired disk permissions and done some various things to cleanup the computer.  I have seen no change in performance yet...actually I feel like it's maybe getting worse.  Here are some examples of the poor performance...

- Opened Microsoft Word…it took 3 minutes for it to fully open

- Opened TextEdit…it took 30 seconds to open.  After hitting new document, it took 15 seconds to open the TextEdit box

- Took 30 seconds to fully open Mail (open to the point where I could use it)

- Printed document from Microsoft Word…had to wait about 45 seconds before it let me click Print.

- JPG photo took 30 seconds to close in Preview (not closing out Preview, but just closing the picture)

- Computer won’t let me move a JPG from an email to a folder in Finder.

- The computer needs to think for a few seconds when searching for things (i.e. in Mail, it doesn't pull up known email addresses immediately after typing in the first few letters)

These are all things that I did not deal with before installing Mavericks.   These issues are also not consistent.  The thing with the JPG's taking 45 seconds to close just happened today for the first time.  I updated to Mavericks probably about a month ago.

I did the Etresoft thing and below is the result.  Please let me know if you think there is anything I can do to improve my computer.

Uninstall CleanMyMac2 >  How To Uninstall CleanMyMac

Uninstall Cocktail > Uninstall Cocktail for Mac OS X

Third party cleaning utilities are not necessary on a Mac and can only cause problems.

Your Mac runs maintenance in the background for you >  Mac OS X: About background maintenance tasks

Growl is un necessary and can slow  the system down > Growl - Removing Growl

If you want to monitor the system, use the pre installed Activity Monitor app located in HD > Applications > Utilities

    Then restart your Mac.

I just installed CleanMyMac2, so I know 100% sure that isn't the problem.  I will do the other things you suggested and see if that helps.  Thanks!

I have been using my computer for a couple days now, and it is definitely better.  Thank you!  I actually used CleanMyMac2 to uninstall/remove those other programs, as well as a copule other things I saw that I didn't need.  Don't know for sure what the problem was...probably either Growl or Cocktail.  On a side note, so far I have actually had a really good experience with CleanMyMac2.  It helped me clear off a lot of GB of data that I don't need and didn't realize was available to delete/uninstall.  Plus it's great to correctly uninstall things and find those random files that get stuck on the computer after deleting a program.
