Driver for USB to Serial adaptor

Hey, I bought a USB to Serial Adaptor on ebay for less than $2 and I thought it is a really good deal. But turns out it does not work on my MBP...

I can use it on windows 8 and the description/hardware ID inside windows: USB-SERIAL CH340/usb vid_1a86&pid_7523&rev_0254 (I do not know how to find the hardware ID inside Mac...). I am running latest Mac OS.

Any of you here has experience with this kind of stuff?

Thanks,

/S

The only USB to serial devices I have used are these:

http://www.tripplite.com/en/products/model.cfm?txtSeriesID=849&txtModelID=3914

http://www.tripplite.com/en/products/Discontinued-Products.cfm?MDLID=3915#overvi ew

The latter was recently discontinued but is still available from other sources. Driver compatibility indicates nearly every Mac OS version through Mountain Lion but I have tested it with Mavericks and it still works. They are 64 bit drivers so I expect it would.
