This solution worked perfectly the first try.  The only thing I did differently was to move the folder to the trash can.  My notes, email, contacts, etc are all synced into iCloud.  When I started Notes after doing the move, it repopulated with the notes from iCloud and kept going.

The problem I had before the fix was that an old (deleted) note appeared on the screen (like when you double click it in the notes on the left) separate from the base page/window.  It did not appear in the ist box.  I could not delete it.  No matter what I tried, the program locked up.

But thanks to you guys I am back up and running.

    Thanks

    I have the same problem!.

I tried all the recommended solutions from Softwater.

The only one that worked was to move the com.Apple.Notes folder to my Desktop then  re-started Notes and did not crash.

But the problem is that all my notes are gone!.

So I had to move back the folder to ~/Library/Containers/ and now the problem persist.

This is the report sent to Apple:

    Application Specific Information:

*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'Got more than one folder with folderId

terminating with uncaught exception of type NSException

Apple please help us fix this issue. For me the problem started since I updated to Mavericks.

    This is driving me crazy!

Maybe the troubleshooters are asking the wrong questions.

I noticed my problem (same as above) occurred after I had to change my network password (at work). What was very strange was that I had two login IDs, and Notes worked fine for the other, which was the one I created when I first got the Mac. However, I installed Sierra under my newer admin login. But I doubt that had anything to do with it.

I think the problem we're talking about can occur if you get a new router and have to change your pw, or someone might reset a router somewhere, etc.

That apparently raises some temporary conflict deep within the soul of your iCloud routines.

I tried all solutions above, but only this worked:

    • go to iCloud in System Preferences
    • uncheck Notes
    • Restart
    • launch Notes. (NOTE: you will appear to have lost everything in it. You haven't. You just aren't connected, remember?)
    • close Notes
    • go back to System Preferences; select iCloud
    • re-check the Notes box
    • re-launch Notes

    That seemed to do it.
