Dec 8, 2013 3:45 PM in response to kentfromctby K Shaffer,There is no direct connection or converter for this because these are different technologies; however if you have a product such as those with both USB 3.0/2.0 and FireWire, it may be possible (under limited and specific circumstances) to be able to use a third product with those ports as an active converter. But don't bet on it.
What other kinds of products are you trying to connect? If you have other, older Macs, perhaps...
There is a way to use an older Mac and then share it over a local network, in order to use some older techologies with newer ones. However, all of my stuff is fairly older (as time & tech moves on) so I don't exactly know how to do that. But I do have an iSight FW400 camera in good shape that I don't use. It didn't seem to work adequately with near-vintage year gear, so it sits in a box.
I've read of situations where some older models of iPod that have both kinds of ports can be used to move files between technologies and different devices that only could see or use one of them; this was because the third product had both ports. However, the iSight external FW400 cable can't be simply exchanged for a USB cable; even though adapters do exist for using several products with newer Macs that utilize a much different port, this kind of product exchange is probably an unlikely outcome.
And, I've seen adapter cables with circuitry that were supposed to allow FireWire to USB conversion, but they were cheesy and for non-Mac PCs several years ago. Not sure how those were meant to work. And then there are external drives that have USB and FW ports, but I doubt they could be used to convert signal types.
Perhaps someone will have other ideas on another direction you could go; maybe there something else out there. I've looked and see something that may work for you here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5537429?tstart=0
Good luck & happy computing!

Dec 9, 2013 8:33 AM in response to Nielby kentfromct,Thanks, but there is only one Thunderbolt port on macbook air and using this to connect to monitor...that's reason I need to connect external isight to use when laptop is closed.

If your monitor has a Firewire port, you should connect your Firewire iSight or adapter to the FW port on the monitor.
