Thanks for the information. With 10.5.1.42 I am afraid to update to 10.7, don't know what damage the upgrade would do, i.e. will I lose all my podcasts, etc? Any tips on upgrading to 10.7? I've downloaded it already from another site.

Backup your library before you upgrade. See this User tip for a backup strategy. iTunes 10.7 is mostly the same as iTunes 10.5. It was iTunes 11.1 that introduced a particular problem with podcasts where rules for subscriptions on devices could replace those in the library, causing archived episodes to be discarded without warning.

FYI, I'm running 10.7 and as far as I'm concerned, it's pretty solid. The worse annoying thing I came across from that version was it decided to toss out the artwork it had cached for my tv shows (which I had imported from my dvds and put on my network file server and failed to mount after a reboot). I had to do the file info thing on each one of them to get the artwork back into itunes from the media's embedded artwork. Not a problem, but annoying.

One thing I was going to say in a previous post however was itunes will want to upgrade to the "latest" ios... There are tricks to pick a particular ios firmware from a local file, but there are SHSH blobs to deal with and apple made it unnecessarily painful and it isn't entirely clean from what I read. I have no idea what apple would let you do if you use an outdated itunes (10.7) to upgrade to an outdated ios (6.1)... Granted the ipod touch 4th gen and earlier gens can't upgrade to ios 7, but........

If you have a touch that you're using a lot for music, I'd shy away ios 6.... the music player app is very touchy and there are several bugs that manifest over and over again in version 6 ( https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4385600?tstart=0 ), mainly that it loses its place in a playlist, but there are others.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, well-spoken and detailed. I will leave my Pod where it is...don't need problems with the software and hours of fixiing. Apple is 'way overrated IMHO.

I believe that has only ever worked for restoring tracks deleted from a playlist, not from the library as a whole. As far as I know it still works.

It is doubtful that Apple is following this or similar threads. Or else they are but those who do and understand are powerless against some control freak roadblock individual or committee who should be discharged by now. The bug test will be the version 12.  If the c**p continues, I'm leaving all the i-stuff behind and going elsewhere.

Nearly all the gripes in the thread are true and I agree with them. Just one more ("relatively" minor) example I am curious about: There was a slider in version 10 that you could use when in the all album cover view. This was very logical and useful to control the size of and number of albums fitting on the screen.  Well this slider seems to have disappeared; is it buried deep in the lousy control scheme, or did the boneheads delete that also, for the sake of making version 11 "easier to use"?

It is now so slow that it takes 2 - 3 minutes to load under Windows XP. To make matters worse, I reinstalled the PC because I was suspicious of Malware. But now the library is mucked up. I want to go back to an earlier version if I still can.

The main thing that is really killing me is that pausing playback with the space bar causes the playback to jump to the beginning of a track when restarting. I rely on the position staying where it is when I pause it because I am using the computer to play prayers, and we want the prayers to pick up where they were when we pause them.

And I suppose it would be good to be able to launch the thing without waiting 3 minutes.

The Mac 11.1.1 on a fairly new machine seems to be OK, but I haven't updated to Mavericks yet, which I think has an upgrade for iTunes...

I hate the new interface as well. 1st time I've ever been so motivated as to contact Apple and be the whiney very unhappy customer. I guess after Steve Jobs died someone at Apple removed all the signs that read "IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT."

Just a note to you complainers.... IT HASN"T GOTTEN ANY BETTER since this post began in April... I have about 9,000 songs, and I normally use Genius to create playlists.

    Problem

#1 Genius seems to "forget" the all or part of a genius created playlist at times, including the song it was based on. Sometimes part or all of the playlist will return or refresh, if I change and select 50 or 100 songs and then back to the original number of songs selected.

#2 Often the song listed now says, "not enough music to create a playlist from this song, would you like to update Genius." Again, a song previously used to create a genius list.

#3 In the realm of movies, some movies that are no longer available to purchase, ( only rent now) drop out of the cloud, and I lose them even if I purchased them in the past from the itunes store. (example ( two of the 3 Clint Eastwood man with no name trilogy)

#4 Often the "cloud goes to sleep" and I can't access music that's not on my hard drive... That's happened since updating to the current version of itunes. and it gets "locked into the updating" mode for hours, until I either quite Itunes, or reboot the computer. (current version on all hardware and software as of Feb 2014)

#5 And yes, I agree with the guy that says the "right side menu bar" made it much easier to find and buy music that matches current favorites. Yes, the current version of itunes 11.1.3.3 isn't nearly so much fun to use.

#6 I'm tired of living with a new set of software "growth pains" every couple months.
