Dec 8, 2013 1:07 PM in response to David Harbsmeierby crusader,What if I don't have Photoshop? Is there a way to do this with Motion in FCP7?

Dec 8, 2013 1:20 PM in response to crusaderby RatVega™,Your Motion clip presumably has an alpha channel, so a simple border isn't going to work. Go back to motion and add your border there.

Dec 8, 2013 4:41 PM in response to RatVega™by crusader,When I double click on the clip, I am back in the Motion tab in my source window. There is no place to add a border there. If I switch onto the FILTER tab...I can add a BORDER effect. But none will take. Another string suggested the BEVEL border effect. I tried it, but it only applies a border to the left side of the frame...weird.
Still looking for a detailed fix/guidance...

Dec 8, 2013 5:55 PM in response to crusaderby RatVega™,In Motion:
Duplicate the still that you have moving. This gives you a duplicate path of movement.
You can either scale up the image to allow for the border and color it your border color, or replace it with a matte in your border color. Either way, the duplicate obviously needs to be behind the original still.
This may not be elegant, but it'll work.

Dec 8, 2013 9:16 PM in response to crusaderby David M Brewer,Crop the image in Preview... import the image to FPC and add the boarder there.
(You can add a boarder in Preview... it can a pain in the tush to do so.)

Dec 8, 2013 9:34 PM in response to David M Brewerby crusader,This doesn't really work because for precision I need to resize in the timeline, within motion.
FCP very limited when it comes to doubling and tripling up on effects

Dec 9, 2013 9:40 AM in response to crusaderby Michael Grenadier,Nest the moving image, and in the nest, add a color matte UNDERNEATH the still image and crop or scale the image down slightly. Post back if you need help with nesting.

Dec 9, 2013 4:53 PM in response to Michael Grenadierby crusader,OK nested the clips, went to my available Video Filters and there is no COLOR MATTE. There is Difference Matte, Matte Choker. What is my next step for getting a red border on all 4 sides of my image?
Sorry for being such a graphics dummy. I'm more of a story guy.

Dec 9, 2013 5:52 PM in response to crusaderby Michael Grenadier,it's under generators, not filters. In the viewer, one of the little boxes towards the bottom right, the same place you find the text generators, etc.
I'm not on my system now. If you can't figure it out, post back and I'll walk you thru it tomorrow.
