Q: iWork apps crashing after Mavericks upgrade

I upgraded to Mavericks without a hitch. After the upgrade I was prompted to update iWork via the Mac app store. Now I have the applications upgraded and installed but they simply won't open. They will open for a second and then immediately crash.

I've tried uninstalling them and re-installing. I also tried uninstalling them via programs like CleanMyMac to see if maybe some lingering files were left over that would cause the crash... but no dice.

Anyone else having this issue? If so, any ideas on how to resolve it? I'd like to be able to use the software I purchased and would like to fix this without wiping my whole computer and starting fresh.

Update: This happens on 2 different Macs I have, so it isn't specific to one machine.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

I also tried everything you said... TWICE! Luckily the old apps were only replaced in a subfolder because I realy needed them today...

I also tried to no avail to reset the cache folder from the app store.

Really needs to be fixed -_-x

I found this post and it worked for me. The problem comes from the fonts installed. If you have custom fonts installed, back them up and reimport them after reinitialising the original fonts :

    Same issue here.

Reset PRAM, reset SMC, completely removed with AppCleaner app.  Repaired my disk.  Repaired Disk Permissions.  I even reinstalled Mavericks a second time.  Nothing worked.  Trying to hold out one more day to find a fix, but I might just have to wipe my mac and start over.  Beyond frustrated.

I tried every solution suggested for fixing the iWorks/Pages/Keynote/Numbers crashing issue.  Nothing worked despite all the things I deleted, uninstalled, or changed, or how many times I restarted my Mac after each of them. Finally I called Apple support.  My 2009 iMac 27" is long out of warranty. But I was willing to pay $19 if I had to, to have this issue resolved.  So after an hour on the phone with the most helpful tech support person, it was fixed, on all three apps.  I wish I could tell what the multiple steps were, but I was so intent on just following the instructions given to me, and doing what I was told, I have little recall of what we tried and didn't work, and what we tried that finally made the difference.  I recommend that you all just bite the bullet and call Apple Support.  It'll be worth your time, and your money if that's required for your machine.  Go for it and get on with whatever you do on your Mac.

You paid for a fix to a problem created by Apple?

    What happened to free update?

Why bother posting if you can't ad to the solution. Unless your only reason for posting was to ensure that Apple gets more money than they already have.

This has been really annoying me ever since I upgraded to Mavericks on my iMac and my partner's iMac (which is a little older than mine). iWork apps worked perfectly on my partner's iMac straight away, no problem. On MY iMac however, all the apps kept unexpectedly quitting. I tried every solution suggested here. I also rang Apple. My warranty ran out an age ago but they still offered to help me for free - and I should think so too!

I was talked through various processes (all of which I had already tried) and, of course, none of them worked. Incidentally, the Apple person didn't believe I have a shortcut to my (invisible) Library folder on my Desktop and in my Dock. My User Library folder, that is, not the System one. She told me "that is IMPOSSIBLE" and got rather huffy about it when I offered to send her a screenshot. I can assure everyone it IS possible... But that's another story...).

After numerous restarts etc. the disgruntled Apple person admitted defeat and told me to set up another user to work with Keynote, Pages and Numbers. I did, and they opened normally, but I was rather annoyed at having to change users to use iWork.

I was very disappointed each time subsequent updates did NOT fix the matter. However, this morning I thought I'd have one more go at trying to open Pages before going mad, and lo and behold it works! So do the other two apps. Is everyone else's working now? Did I miss an update that fixed things? I'd be very interested to know if it WAS an update or something I did because I did bin the .plist files last week again out of sheer desperation and only just rebooted...

I was too having an issue which brought me here the other day. Pages kept hanging. Not responding. I'd force quit and try over and over. Nothing. Then on the last attempt while browsing the discussions I tried to start it again and got distracted by a football (American football) game. When I came back a short time later, Pages - which was hung when I walked away - was waiting for me to use when I got back. I tried a thing or two with the app then shut it down, restarted it, shut it down, restarted it. So actually my "solution" was to do nothing. I'm just as baffled as you. Sometimes I wonder about just what's going on in the minds of Apple software writers. By the by, Chicago Bears creamed the Dallas Cowboys. Da Bears.

Ha ha well I hope you WANTED the Bears to cream the Cowboys.

Yeah, I think they know exactly what's amiss and read forums such as this and go away and slowly, behind the scenes, when they have a spare moment, sort it out without making a big hoo ha because, of course, they were supposed to have done it right the first time!

I hope everyone's now sorted because it was VERY frustrating and making me want to throw things.
