Q: Home Sharing not working - iTunes 11.1.2 / iOS 7.0.3

For/If somebody who uses iTunes Home Sharing - has home sharing stopped working for you after updating to iTunes to 11.1.2 or OS X Mavericks? Both of those updates were released and applied on the same day. Before these two updates, it was working fine. Just trying to figure out which is possibly the problem and how to fix it. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

 

BEFORE

OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5

iTunes 11.1 or 11.1.1

 

AFTER

OS X Mavericks

iTunes 11.1.2

 

Devices on the Network

(Device ... Operating System ... Network Connection Type)

Mac Mini ... OS X Mavericks 10.9 … Wired

MacBook Pro(MBP) ... OS X Mavericks 10.9 … Wi-Fi

iPhone 5 ... iOS 7.0.3 … Wi-Fi

iPhone 5 ... iOS 6.1.4 ... Wi-Fi

iPad 3rd Gen … iOS 7.0.2 ... Wi-Fi

 

The Home Sharing is still working fine between the OS X devices (Mac Mini and MBP). But none of the iOS devices detect either of the Home Sharing Libraries (Mac Mini and MBP library). Also, since all three iOS devices are running three different iOS versions, i dont believe it is not an iOS problem.

    Similar ongoings here.

     

    Issue:

    iPhone 4s is no longer able to connect to my Home Shared library on iTunes via Music, Video, or the Apple Remote App.

     

    The iPhone is found by iTunes for wireless syncing.

     

    No changes were made to my home wifi network - its been the same for 1+ years.

     

    Nuts and Bolts of setup:

    Windows 7 64bit Home Premium

    iTunes 11.1.3.8

    iPhone 4s with iOS 7.0.4

    iPhone 4S, iOS 7.0.4

     

    To make it more frustrating, Home Sharing started working on Thanksgiving Day. I made no changes to any settings in iTunes, my iPhone or my home network (IPv6, for example).  It just started working.

     

    Then, the next day, it stopped.

     

    Apple, are you out there?

    Just wanted to chime in and state that disabling IPv6 on my desktop's network adapter allowed my ATV3 to see it (iTunes 11.1.3.8 on my Win 7 Professional x64 desktop machine) again. hallelujah!

    Thanks to all. IPv6 is indeed the problem (at least for me). If you want IPv6 back on for some reason the trick is to ensure that all computers on the network are using it. My issue started when I connected an old Windows XP machine to the network which did not have IPv6 installed and enabled for the network adapter on that machine. Hope this helps...

    My question is, do I need to get it back on (v6).... What uses it?

     

    And when you say "all the computers on the network are using it", what exactly does that mean, you are disabling v4?

    IPv6 is all or nothing. If turning it off fixes your issue, leave it off. You stated you wanted it back on. If you want to use it, it needs to be enabled on all network cards on the network. I'll leave you to further research the relative merits of ipv4 versus ipv6 and decide for yourself now the cause of the problem has been established...

    ...and no, ipv4 does not need to be disabled to enable ipv6.

    Actually disabling IPV6 on my router then restarting the router resolved my issue. I have linksys (Cisco) router.

    I completely Removed (In THIS Order) iTunes > Apple Mobile Device Support > Bonjour > Apple Application Support > Apple Software Update.... Then Restarted! 

     


    I then Downloaded the latest version of iTunes and Installed it Fresh (All that I removed was restored); Problem Resolved!

     

    This worked for me!! None of the others did, but thankyou jimiapple67

    This one worked for me to, on Windows7. On the computer, turn off Home Sharing. Close Itunes. Turn on Home Sharing.  Thanks Thrive!

    Spoke too soon. Worked for a while, then quit again. Can't see home share icon in iTunes. Windows7.

    Having tried a number of fixes, the only solution that works fully for me is disabling ipv6 in the network adaptor of the PC which hosts iTunes.

     

    I have no idea what if anything actually uses ipv6, but I haven't had any noticable problems.

     

    My Apple TV is linked by ethernet cable and seems to be bulletproofed by being so.

     

    What I do find is that, just as wireless syncing is random in it's abilities, so is home sharing. 

     

    We have two iPhones and an iPad and not all of them always connect wirelessly to sync even though they sit next to the router.  Similarly they don't always find home sharing.

     

    The cure always seems to be turn it all off and turn it all on again.  In my humble opinion tech has been like that for ever, even in the days before Windows 3.1.

     

    Maybe one day Apple will fix it.

    Same here, suddenly it stopped working (It was working for month, still no idea why). Already exchanged my AppleTV's and even bought an external wireless adapter for my mac mini but it keeps on crashing after a few minutes. Disabled IPV6 and performed a PRAM reset as well - nothing

     

    What about a new installation of:

     

    1. Itunes on MAC?

    2. OSX ?

     

    Anyone has experience with that?

    After deeging deeper I think it has nothing to do with iTunes more with the fact that homesharing crashes wifi out of some reasons? Anyone experienced the same?

     

    Besides I performed a new installation of iTunes, no changes.
