Q: does anyone no of a driver that can be used for a Dell 1320c color laser. The latest driver from dell is for os x 10.4 and .5. mavericks will not allow me to install the older drivers. any help appreciated

I was running the dell 1320c on an older emac running os x 10.5 and now have an imac running Mavericks. I tried installing drivers and Mavericke will not allow me to do so. Does anyone know of a work around for this situation or other drivers that may work. Hate to get rid of the color laser as it does a nice job printing.

It looks like the installer just installs a ppd, so you could use Pacifist to open the installer, extract the ppd, and then install it in  /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources.

Have you tried using the Generic PostScript PPD?

I tried what you said. When I went to install the driver for the printer it came up with a window saying the software was not installed correctly. I basically moved the ppd file in to the proper place, so it did come up when searching for a driver. I then tried the generic postscript but had no luck with that.

SO after many hours of trying this and that I have finally figured out how to get my Dell 1320C color laser to work with OS x Mavericks. Thanks to John Blanchard for turning me on too Pacifist, a great little program well worth the $20.00 price tag. I brought the dell driver package into Pacifist allowing me to separate the different parts of the package as Mavericks would not let me open the package. I moved the ppd file into library/printers/ppds/content/resources, where the ppd files sit. I then moved a folder from my old Emac, which the dell printer was hooked up to, folder name dell, found in library/printers. I moved that folder into library/printers on my Imac running Mavericks. The folder has 2 folders within it called dlut and filter.

After moving the folder in I hooked up the dell printer and installed it. A window came up saying the permissions needed to be repaired so I clicked okay. Seemed like everything was going fine and voila the printer came up as part of the system. Did a test print on some documents and it all worked A okay.

Thanks again for the help and I hope this helps someone with the same problem.
