Q: Blu Ray Workflow: FCP7 to Toast Titanium 11

Good Afternoon,

I'm trying to get a grip on the workflow for burning a Blu Ray Disc for a client.

I'm working in FCP7 - have Roxio Toast Titanium 11 as well as a Buffalo Blu Ray Burner.

Can anyone provide me a step by step for taking a finished FCP7 project, running it through compressor with the correct settings and then how to take that and create a Blu Ray in Toast Titanium 11 with a menu.

Much appreciated! Cheers!

From FCP-7, export a QuickTime movie of your finished sequence, Self Contained and Without Conversion.

    Go to the menu File > Export > QuickTime Movie . . . .

and in the navigation pane that opens make sure Settings is set to Current Settings and Make Movie Self Contained is checked.

Open Toast 11, click on the Video Tab and from the Drop Down menu choose Blu-Ray video.

Drag the QuickTime movie you exported from FCP-7 into the Toast Drop zone.

Select your destination media and buner at the bottom.

Set up your menu and other options in the right panel. Toast is not known for having great, or flexible, menus but the menu choices they offer are there.

When done click the Burn button and Toast will properly encode the video, and then burn the disc for use on most set-top Blu-Ray players. Early Blu-Ray players may or may not support home-made blu-ray discs, most players made in the last few years do.

    Meg,

Thanks for your reply and instruction - immensly helpful. The Blu Ray works in my stand alone blu-ray player but not on a PS3 which I believe is what this wedding client has to view.

I was curious which option to elect here...

I want to make sure that my burns obviously play on all blu - rays .... can you provide any instruction here?
    Thanks so much!

so it sounds like you've got more than one sequence in fcp with different frame rates.  NTSC is 29.97 or 23.976 (also known as 24p) and PAL which is 25/  It's possible your set top player can handle mixed frame rates and the ps3 can't.    If this is the case, post back and we can walk thru some solutions.

Thanks for the reply, but I am not the one that have the Pal issues. Ia m trying to burn Bl- Ray disc  I tried the toast Titanium 11. I exported from FCP 7 un-cecked self-contained movie. And it came out horrible quality. I was looking for a reason:

    1. Export as a self-contain?

    2. In toast 11 what setting shell I use Mpeg 2 or Mpeg 4 ?
