Q: I want to change the name of my macbook Help ?

I tried enabling the rooy account and then renaming the folder with the house on it which was my account but it does not allow my to change my acoount's name

 

Help ?

    Apple Support Communities contributor Pondini found an astonishingly simple way to accomplish what you seek. etresoft distilled that information into the following User Tip:

     

    Changing user account short name

     

    It is far simpler than the outdated and cumbersome Apple Support document you linked.


    Note that he writes it has been tested on Mountain Lion but the procedure appears sound and should work equally well with Mavericks.

    Open the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences, unlock it, control-click your account, choose Advanced Options, and change the name there. If you want to change the computer's name, that's done in the Sharing pane.
