Dec 10, 2013 12:00 PM in response to Kerifromwiby BDAqua,Hi Keri,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Tough without the Install disc, but some things to try...
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
/sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...

Please report any outcome.

Dec 10, 2013 12:09 PM in response to BDAquaby Kerifromwi,Ok, this may sound stupid. But how do I insert a disc if the computer isn't recognizing my keyboard and will not let me open my drive to put the disc in?

Dec 10, 2013 12:35 PM in response to Kerifromwiby BDAqua,Holding the mouse button down when powering on may open the tray, hold alt key also to see the startup manager.
Other than that, you can slide the door of the optical downwards with your fingers, then use a straightened out paper clip to push into that tiny hole to eject the tray.

Dec 10, 2013 3:55 PM in response to BDAquaby Kerifromwi,So I got the tray to open. I tried running the install disc while holding down C, and nothing happens. So then I tried the Apple Hardware disc and that I was able to complete. It stated there are no hardware problems. Not sure where to go from here...

Dec 10, 2013 8:27 PM in response to Kerifromwiby BDAqua,Hmmm, AHT isn't all that reliable, it oftenjust skips tests if there's a problem!???
If you hold alt key at bootup does the Install disc show as a boot option?

Dec 10, 2013 8:50 PM in response to BDAquaby Kerifromwi,When I press alt at start up with install disc, the screen is light purple, there is a refresh arrow, a Macintosh HD symbol, an install disc symbol, and an arrow pointing to the right in the middle of the screen. I'm not sure if that's considered a boot option or what I need to do from that point.

Dec 11, 2013 3:38 PM in response to Kerifromwiby BDAqua,Yes rthat is the boot option screen, usually you can selevt one with the mouse, arrow o tab key & Enter key.
The purple would indicate a Video card problem I thnk.

Dec 11, 2013 5:51 PM in response to BDAquaby Kerifromwi,I am able to highlight the install disc. But when I click on it with my mouse it does nothing, & if I hit enter it goes back to the white start up screen with the apple logo on it.

Dec 13, 2013 4:33 PM in response to BDAquaby Kerifromwi,I have tried a PRAM reset and nothing happens. I just recently tried to reset the SMU/PMU and now when I turn the computer on the fans start up loud right away and there is a red light on that I can see near the start up/shut down button.
