Q: loss of sound after waking up from sleep

I am currently using OS X 10.8.5 (12F37). After upgrading iTunes to 11.1 (126) I lose sound after the computer wakes up from sleep. This was not a problem prior to the iTunes upgrade. The only way to correct the problem is to restart or shut down then restart the computer. Are there any other solutions to this event?

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

This problem has just arrived on my mac book pro... running 10.9

Brand spanking new MacBook Air here running 10.9 with the same problem.

Seriously, how hard can this be? This is my first Mac and this isn't exactly a great endorsement for a would be convert.

I would recommend re-downloading the software update and I-tunes. It took a couple of times for me to get the download to actually download but solved the issue.
