Q: I downloaded MacKeeper, since it identifies itself as an Apple application. Then I got suspicious and deleted the download. Yet the icon is still in the menu on the top line. System is somewhat slow. Now mackeeper pop up says it can fix all?
Is MacKeeper a legitimat Apple ware? I have deleted the downloads, yet the icon remains in the upper line and there are pop-ups: Fix all issues that affect your system status by activating MacKeeper. What should I do?
iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Do not install MacKeeper (and how to uninstall it if you have):

(Please note that references to the original developers, Zeobit, also now refer to Kromtech Alliance Corp, who acquired MacKeeper and PCKeeper from ZeoBit LLC in early 2013.
