Q: 2012 Retina Macbook Pro WiFi problem

I have a 2012 Macbook Pro with Retina display that's been upgraded to Mountain Lion.  It is having WiFi connection issues.

Specifically,

1.  Upon startup it will not find the network.  I have to turn off the wifi and turn it back on to have it find the network.  Annoying.  It used to happen only intermittently; now it happens every start up.  It's getting worse.

2.  It will randomly every few hours drop the wifi connection, requiring me to turn off the wifi and turn it back on.

I've tried the one fix people on here suggested: deleting the wifi network profile I use and putting it back in.

Didn't make a difference.

Has anyone found a better fix?

I'm disappointed that Apple released this version of OS with such a glaring problem.  A laptop without a reliable wifi connection is a complete waste of money.

Ipad, iPhone OS 3.1.3

hey everyone - i just tried changing MTU to Custom and made it 1453. I changed IPv6 to "local.." and also reset DHCP. wifi seems to work okay for now. hasn't dropped in 20 minutes. hope it helps.

Note that this may solve your problem only if you have access to the router administration and you don't use your rMBP outside of that location.

My problems are getting worse. My rMBP is constantly failing to connect to known networks (home and office) after being asleep.

    Sorry to hear.

I have been constantly monitoring my WiFi using the OS X's Wireless Diagnostics. I have caught 32 drops in the last 10 days. This excludes drops caused by putting the laptop to sleep and waking it up.

I have been having the same problem. I run bootcamp on my macbook pro 15" and the internet only cuts out on the mac side. When i run windows i have never had problems with it cutting out so it's not the hardware :/ really fustrates me when we don't get any help for these things. Is there anything else that might work?

This is my 3rd Mac Book.  From the first time I used Apple I was relieved of the pains of Windows and especially the simplicity of getting on a wireless network was one of the biggesr benefits.  This is my third MacBook Pro and this problem of not finding a familiar wireless whether at home or the office is anoying.  Usually switching wireless off and on helps but not always.  It often happens that in the middle of everything is simply loses connection when I know it is not the problem of the signal or the router since no one else around me experiences the same issues or my other divices are steadily connected.

    Does anyone read these posts?

I searched online and found out how to disable IPv6 on my MacBook Pro. It helped me resolve my wifi issue. You might want to try it and see if it helps you.

I have two MB Pro Retina late 2012 in house and after alot of WiFi issues (dropping, cutting, slow etc) i finally found a "solution"; disable bluetooth. some other users has reported the same earlier in this thread as well.

My main issue was streaming music from spotify to ATV3 - it dropped about every 20second over WiFi. after i turned off BT, it has been stable for the last 24hours (NO drops) - i really hope Apple will come up with a solution for this in a future update. Normally i have a 27" thunderbolt display connected, together with keyboard and mouse over BT, but because i had to disable BT, and do not have a USB-keyboard i now have to use the MB without external display, with a Logitech mouse. not a good solution for a $3000 computer (Yes, they are really expensive in Norway)

Definitely a software issue; I have followed someone's earlier suggestion for a botched temporary solution. This solution means that it is definitely something to do with sleeping/power-saving. I think that user input is tied to sleep of the wifi too - completely illogical as, during streaming at least, the user isn't always going to use the keyboard/touchpad.

Before using the internet, open Terminal and ping your router every 0.2 seconds.

It prevents the wifi from sleeping.

Looks like this problem was solved with today's 10.9.4 update...finally.
