Thanks for explaining nothing. I went to your links and still can not get it working.
Apple iPhone 5c I just bought gets no ringtones with text.
(1) I have "do not disturb" scheduled correctly.
(2) I have the ringer icon correct with no slash
(3) Yes ringtones are configured for text and other. I can hear them when I test them.
I rebooted the iPhone 5c by using the button at top, slide the red bar, then pressed it again, apple came up for a minute and it seemed to be back up.
This is really frustrating.

I downloaded many song ringtones Oldies from itunes. I can use all of them for ALERTS plus Alert Badges for all the programs like incoming Phone calls and Text Messages, etc. even when the phone is locked.
1. Settings 'Notification Center' (gray box icon with white square and dot)
2. Tap the arrow forward.
3. Scroll un down to the 'Include' (light gray) which lists programs like 'Messages, Mail, Reminders, etc'.
4. Tap on 'Messages Badges Alerts'
5. Tap on Alerts under the phone icon
6. Tap on Badge App Icon so it's green
7. Tap on Alert Sound and choose (scroll) the Ringtone SONG you want to hear for Alert Sound
It plays 29 seconds and you can have it repeat (scroll down to 'Repeat Alerts' and choose Twice
and if you have your Sound Settings listed as loud as the slider will go, you'll have no trouble hearing it..
I hope this helps.you.
ps. When looking for itunes ringtones go to search and type in Ringtones and the Artist you like. The songs are 99 cents each but WORTH it. When the song plays you'll know which song is a text message or a phone call. You can have a different ringtone for each email address CONTACTS you have, also. Just click on Contacts and Edit and scroll down to choose which song you want to hear for their call.
Best Regards,

Dec 28, 2014 2:46 PM in response to iKayakerby TheRealJV,I have had this same problem for weeks now with my 4S. I just got a new 5S after being extremely frustrated and the same thing - no sounds. After searching posts all over, I couldn't find a solution. I just told my friend of the issue and he asked "Do you have the Do Not Distrub on?" I didn't even know such a function existed. Upon looking that was exactly the issue.
To resolve, go to Settings> Do Not Disturb> Manual. If it is green, turn it off. You will now get phone calls and text alerts.
This functionality is also on your quick access utility menu (slide up menu). I assume this is how it was enabled on my phone.
I will post on other sites since I searched for weeks for this solution and didn't see it anywhere. Good luck!
