Q: Document can't be opened in pages

Created a doc in pages on  my ipad.  Now it says "document can't be opened".  Will let me copy but not email or save to itunes.  It is in the icloud but tells me I need a newer version of pages for icloud.  Won't let me open on my mac either.  Can anyone help - need this file!  Have checked on other forums and some people say to open in an older version - how can I download an older version of pages either on Ipad or mac.  Have already tried deleting pages app and reinstalling.

I have upgraded everything,..... (pages in Mac Mini, pages in iPad...etc) and Maverick wont recognize a document I created in my iPad.  The message I get is that I have to upgrade Pages in Maverck, which it indicates that it is already installed.  What can I do?  I can't open the document in my Mac.

I tried a work-around that worked. I right clicked and "open with" Preview. Once opened, I then copied and pasted into old version of Pages. It is convoluded, but it at least saved my work at the time.

Since my initial problems, I haven't had an issue opening and saving with the updated Pages. But, I haven't done what you did, either. Creating it on a mini and then opening it on a Mac.

    Hope this helps.

I'm feeling a little but guilty... but it happened that I couldn't understand why it said I had the application installed and couldn't open the file.  Well..... the upgraded icons (on all iWorks) were never replaced on the dock and were semi-hidden on Finder.  I removed the old ones from the dock and went to Applications in Finder.  Then opened the new version of the applications.  Problems solved.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Not solved for me, I'm afraid. Anyone else still having this problem? And if not, what's the fix? The description in the original post is pretty much exactly my current problem. Have updated and upgraded everything to their newest versions, including OS and iOSes...

No solution for me. You can read about my case in this post..

I've been contacted by Apple and asked to describe my problem in detail and send the corrupted document. I explained everything, including the fact that I'm unable to email the document, because it can't be opened etc.

And nothing ever happened. I updated Pages once since that time, I think, but that didn't help.

So I re-wrote the hole thing. I lost about 20 pages of a very important paper, but since I couldn't continue waiting for them to do something, and I haven't been given a clue that they actually will, I gave up.

    Congratulations Apple customer care!

I tried right click on the document icon and then selected the new Pages version that was listed in the drop down menu. It opened. Don't know why it does not come up automatically, though.
