Q: Mybook studio raid 0, empty after installing Mavericks

After installing Mavericks, my WD My Book Studio II connected by firewire, does not contain any files. It is a raid 0, after using the operating system while I wonder if I could use time machine to which I said no.

In this hard drive I keep my most precious files.

Forgive the level of English, I'm Spanish and I write through a translator.

A greeting and thanks.

did you ever try mounting your suddenly empty discs (shown empty in 10.9) on another mac which runs 10.8 or earlier?

i have a couple of mypassports 2,5" (each 2GB) which cannot be mounted or seen in 10.9 BUT in 10.8 on another mac, everythings fine! just backup your data there and wait until the wd driver gets fixed by apple or Western Digital... of course dont use wd software

More nonsense from Western Digital:  This time I had someone on the support staff claim there was no beta release of Mavericks for them to test!

Check the following email.  italics and bold mine

    Dear Tom White,

    Thank you for your reply.

To be sure, we stated earlier, Apple did not launch the beta version of OSX 10.9 which was sent to the industry, they launched later version.  The industry saw the version of OSX that the world saw on the day it launched. The industry had no pre-launch version for testing prior to the release. As an added frustration to the industry, Apple launched the OSX 10.9 a full month early.

I found the activation license key as issued to you earlier, but there was no further information as to your outcome. I was simply covering all bases with a single email in an attempt to avoid confusion or miscommunication. Is there any further assistance I can provide or is it ok to close this case?

If you have any further questions, please reply to this email and we will be happy to assist you further.

Hello guys, again. Is it safe now (I'm sure some of you checked) to install Mavericks when I've completely removed any WD software?

i recovered a disc, i formated by accident. it was a helper tool. i guess prosoft datarescue.

    i tried it with 3 or 4 different apps (50 - 150$)

if you are blessed, there is no need to send your disc to a recovery service, which is very costly.

    it is worth a try.

additionally, you can prevent data loss in the future by installing techtool pro 7, like i did,

and use the feature "backup directory structure" of every external and internal disc.

it does backups every 1h or so...

this makes it possible to recover a disc fast and nearly complete.

    I have a MyBook Essentail.

Guess what?  All of a sudden, it doesn't mount.  It has ALL my files on it!  I tried downloading the latest drivers from the Western Digital Site.....

Nothing -  doesn't mount, iOS doesn't see it.

So, what gives with all this BS, I am new to this.

    Thanks in advance!

They have recovered my disk with no complete file structure. Im fine witch this resoult because files got real date and it make simpler to manage it. I think it will be no other option to recover all partition. I reformated my WD studio and forget about this incident.

Does anyone know what the latest Mavericks version is? I'm still running os 10.8.5 and I am jumpy about updating.

Apple states in its Mavericks features that Mavericks uses an updated/improved/newer/better/different version of the Metadata read/write standard. I and some others believe that this updated Metadata standard has either revealed bugs/flaws/issues in the Metadata in some software that had gone unnoticed by the previous Metadata standards or maybe the newer Metadata standard is just not backward compatible with the previous standards.

So far no-one I know who reformatted their backup drives from their initial purchase of their drives (even WD drives) using the GUID formatting standard using Apple Disk Utility has had a problem. These others are only using them as TimeMachine backups though.
