Q: Mavericks slowed down my MacBook Pro 13 inch (Mid 2010)

I did a clean install of 10.6.3 (which came with my MacBook Pro).  Then upgraded to 10.6.8 to be able to download Mavericks from the App store.  Installed Mavericks and everything (boot-up, application lauch, opening folders, etc.) has been dragging since then.  Can someone explain a better way to do the installation or changes to make to improve the speed?

Thank you,

    JuanMauricio,

if you’re still having the same problem, please follow the same course of action that I’d suggested to Benjamin above.

I dn't think this is helpful. When you have hundreds of users experiencing the identical problem using EtreCheck to try to identify a singular problem with that aprticualr user is the wrong approach.

HERE IS SOMETHING USEFUL: I backed up my hard drive. Then blanked it and installed Mavericks from scratch. I then reinstalled from scratch the applications I needed and loaded back my docs. My macbookpro now runs well, as fast as pre-mavericks.

The procedure is a bit painful but it works.

Might read my recent post ( report/review on 10.9). I have an older MBP, less RAM and its fine. BUT---- it took quite a while of indexing, files converting, caches building etc before it was quick.  Sometimes its still a bit doggy, but most times its as fast as 10.6.8 now.  You might give it time.

    Benjamin,

a common problem does not necessarily have a single common cause. Different people have different software installed, so a fix that works for one person might not work for another. Having the EtreCheck data from different people may lead to discovery of one or more common causes; but without that data, it is difficult to determine whether someone’s problem falls under a common cause or under a unique cause. That is why the individual discussions are helpful.

Regarding the procedure that worked for you, I agree that it is useful, but many people prefer to avoid the painfulness of “nuking” their current setups.

Are other people still having this slowness issue when upgraded to Mac OS X 10.9.1?

"Are other people still having this slowness issue when upgraded to Mac OS X 10.9.1?"

Fromt he sampling i have seen, those that are slow for 10.9 are still slow for 10.9.1.

Most of us were never slow - its not an inherent problem - its some combination of incompatibilities etc.

    Yes,

Did a whole lot of research before upgrading 10.6.8 to Maverick and all reviews were good.

Once I updated, the mac takes around half a minute now before it gives the startup sound, takes around 10 times longer to startup and everything jus feels sluggish.

Now I know why his was a free update.

    Marcel,

Please start another thread for your slow Mac issue with a title such as “Slow Mac After Mavericks Upgrade."  Most likely the slowness issue is addressable with some diagnosis.

Please  download and run Etrecheck and post back the results in the new thread.

    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck

This will indicate possible software compatibles and other details that may be helpful in a diagnosis.

    Hello Sir,

    Greetings!

    Sorry to bother you.

I read this post and came to know that Etre Check results would help in diagnosing the mac performance. I'm pasting my mac results below. Please review it and let me know what needs to be fixed to improve the perforamnce.

    Any Help would be appreciated..

    Thanks in advance !
