Dec 15, 2013 9:07 AM in response to xsdogsby CT,One thing to try:
System Preferences, Language & Region, Advanced, Measurement Units: set it to US (instead of metric).
Then restart Maps and see if that helped.

Mar 29, 2016 10:42 AM in response to Zompby WilsonLaidlaw,Does not work in El Capitan. I have units set in International Preferences to Metric. Tried restarting Apple Maps - still in miles. Even restarted MBP, checked that metric still showing in System Preferences but when restarting Maps, still in miles. I wonder if you have to come out of UK region and time zone to change to metric.

Mar 29, 2016 10:49 AM in response to WilsonLaidlawby WilsonLaidlaw,You cannot have metric distances when the region is set to UK. If I change the region to France, which has various other implications that I find undesirable, the distances change immediately to metric. Why allow the units to be changed separate from region, if it does not work, even on Apple's own applications? I will report this as a bug to Apple.
