    Hi EC,

from one file in Excel (Windows 7- Office 2010) to Numbers

Do you have the document in Numbers?

Do you now want to export back to Excel?

Which version of Numbers, 2.3 (Numbers '09) or 3.x (Numbers '13)?

The instructions you are following seem to apply to Numbers 2.3 where there is a Share menu with Export > Excel...

In Numbers 3 there is a Share button which won't do what I think you want. Instead, use Menu > File > Export to > Excel...

    Regards,

    Ian.

On second thoughts, maybe you haven't yet opened the document in Numbers. Double click on it and Numbers will *import* it.

    Ian.

    Hi E C,

HT3348 is a knowledge base document referring specifically to Numbers '09.

The instruction "Choose Share > Export and then click Excel" means

From the Share menu, go to the Export section and select Excel…"

The ellipsis following Excel indicate the link is to a dialogue box—in this case a Save dialogue in which you will be able to edit the name of the document, and select a destination folder in which to save the Excel version of the file.

HT3348 also offers the "File > Export > Excel…" route to saving an Excel version of the file.

In Numbers 3, as Ian notes, only one of these paths may be available.

    Regards,

    Barry

You have received three pieces of information about exporting a Numbers '09 document to Excel, as the topic of your question requested, but the actual question seems to be about importing an Excel document to Numbers.

If you are interestied in importing, I believe you can do it by choosing File > Open… in Numbers and selecting the Excel file in the Open dialog, or by dropping the Excel file icon on the Numbers icon in your dock.
