Q: "Use Audio Port for" gone in Mountain Lion

With no disclaimer that it won't work on newer MBPs.
That's my issue. And you being rude to those of us who didn't peruse the entire manual before buying, even assuming that the manual is accurate... someone here has already provided a scan of misleading information from the packaging on theirs, but you choose to believe that they're posting a pic from another model.

Im having this issue too - I have been told only the non-retina models have this issue. I use this laptop do do my DJing sets live via other software such as Mixlr or recording via audacity. My other DJ friend can confirm this as he has the latest model (2013) as I only have the Mid 2012 model.
I have to hook up more than 1 USB when DJing this means I have to buy a pricey USB Hub and a USB Sound card to connect to my mixer so I can get an input to the mac.As for this issue people I just bought my mac recently and Im unable to contact apple about this issue as of yet.

...which works fine in my WindowsXP laptop (2 channel stereo) - BUT - only gives me the option for 1 channel MONO input (using Audacity in both machines). So basically the question is:
Is it possible to import 2 channel STEREO (line in) with a MacbookPro Retina 2012 MountainLion 10.8.5?
If not, then my message to Apple is: What the *bleep??

Oct 15, 2013 8:37 PMby Frank Caggiano,have you looked in System Preferences->Sound, what does the device show as? Also look in Audio Midi Setup make sure the device is set to two channel.
In Audacity what are these windows showing?
Also do you have the latest version of Audacity?
You may want to start a new topic as this thread is old and not really related to your problem.

Oct 16, 2013 12:29 PMby Cartoonipad,Thx for the reply. Yes I have the latest Audacity (2.0.4). Audio Midi Setup input shows "USB headphone set" (but only 1 channel, no option to change). Two finger click or gear shows "configure device" ghosted:

...and Audacity shows the same (1 channel only) option in preferences and interface:
As mentioned before, this device works fine on the PC. Please correct me if I'm wrong but this is either a bug or Apple intensionally removed, not only the line-in option, but the ability for USB devices to capture 2 channel stereo. So much for progress. I guess it would make sense if they're trying to sell a proprietary device (iMic?).
I'd like to know if any such devices work, which brings me back to my question:
Is it possible to import 2 channel STEREO (line in) with a MacbookPro Retina 2012 MountainLion 10.8.5? (with or without a USB device)
Has anyone here been able to do so?

I can assure you that stereo input via USB is alive and well. Have a look at this iMic - Griffin Technology lots of users using it.

Message was edited by: Frank Caggiano perhaps the fact that the device you have is billing itself as 7.1 has something to do with it. Is it really suppose to do 7 channel audio?
