My iMovie 10.0.01 is creating projects in 720, how can I create a project in 1080?

When you have your project open and selected, try clicking on the Adjust button in the topmost window bar. Then click on the crop button. You have three styles: Fit, Crop, Ken Burns. Fiddle around with the Crop button

I had the opposite problem. I had old digitized movie film that was being formated as HD and was cutting off the top and bottom of the image. For my problem I clicked the Fit button which put black bands on the left and right sides but now I see the whole image. In your instance, clicking on the Crop button may help. Or maybe the Fit button will work. The old iMovie was much clearer about this issue.

Is the footage in your Project 1080?

Haven't really paid much attention to this, but now I notice that most of my Projects are1080 and a few are 720.

But I can't figure out what determines the size. It doesn't seem to be the footage.

I'm going to need to play around with this more.

Where do you see what format a project or clip (event) is? The only place I have seen this is when you go to make a movie (share) and you are given four choices to pick one. For anything else, I can't find it. Thanks.

OH, I think I found it. In the title bar above the play screen. But it disappears when the cursor goes over something else, which is why I didn't notice it before.

Click on a project icon in the Events pane and the project icon picture appears in the viewer with the chevrons across the top.  Above the centre of the viewer is displayed the resolution (eg 1080p) and duration etc.
