This problem has reared it's head again...

Our MacBook Air, with Mavericks, has it's mail set to fetch manually.  Oddly, it seems to randomly automatically fetch mail. (We're using a POP account).

I've deleted the Preference file, com.apple.mail.plist, and the problem goes away for a while...  I send test emails to the MacBook Air's email account, and the auto fetch does not happen.

Then, I'll sleep the Mac over night, and the next morning I will find that the mail has auto-fetched.  The Mail preference will still show to fetch mail manually.

I think I'm noticing that as long as the MacBook Air isn't plugged in to it's power supply, the auto fetch doesn't occur...  But if it is plugged in, the Auto Fetch can occur...

Any thoughts concerning this odd behavior?  For what it's worth, it's a Gmail account that Mail fetches...

Thanks

    Ah Ha!

There's a setting under Preferences>Energy Saver, called Power Nap... It allows checking of email, and back up of Time Machine while the computer is asleep, but plugged in...

    Mystery solved...
