Q: Slow Safari....Mavericks Update???

Ever since we updated to Mavericks, my wifes and my laptops have been acting slow.  Mostly noticable in Safari, but noticing a few other areas as well.

We both have 13" Macbook Pro's (mid 2012) 2.9 i7, 8GB Ram.

The issues:

When surfing the web, many/most sites will start to load, then slow, almost to a stop...wait, and then load...sometimes it loads slowly, sometimes it loads fast.

Internet download speeds are fine, 15 - 16 mbps at home, and close to 50 mbps at work (same issues at work)

Sometimes the finder does not populate very quickly, sometimes taking a minute or so.

I have used ONYX to clean, clean, clean... reset safari, cleard cache, deleted cookies, did Permissions and etc.

I have also changed DNS and killed the prefetching and etc....

ANY SUGGESTIONS?  THIS IS ANNOYING.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can point me in the right direct... and this is the same on BOTH computers.

Steve

I experience slow Safari and even slower Finder on Mavericks.  I did some clear the Safari caches dance at some point, the performance improved but degraded again after a week or two.  I stopped using Safari and use Firefox instead and the performance issues are gone now.

    You are welcome.

You have a lot of log-in items. Note what they are, remove them, log out/in, and test. If things are improved, add them back one at a time to see if you can isolate one that is causing a problem.

Here is something i am noticing... when i go to a page/site in Safari, it will start to load then slows to a STOP... sits for a while, then "sometimes" will load after a few, but if i click the link again, sometimes it will instantly go tot he site... its unpredicable.... and annoying.

Safari does exactly the same on my iMac. When I updated to Mavericks the problem seemed to go away, drove me up the wall on ML, but alas it has returned.I've reset, and cleared the caches, nothing seems to clear things up. I find FireFox seems to work much better, except I hate the FF look.

Un-install software following the developer's instructions to make sure you remove all parts of the software and some offer the advice to never install 3rd party software unless you know how to remove it.

    com.bjango.istatmenusdaemon.plist

I would un-install the above. The Launch Daemon failed to load and the Launch Agent failed to load.

    I would also remove CleanMyMac2.

A frequent poster wrote this - Myth of the Dirty Mac

    CleanMyMac2 Un-install

      [failed] com.syniumsoftware.CleanAppDaemon.plist

This also failed to load. I would uninstall it also.

As you are discovering, troubleshooting can take awhile.

I'm sure glad that the FF workaround works for you too!  I much rather put up with FF than with this "Un-install software following the developer's instructions..." stuff that sounds like smoke and mirrors and does not fix the problem that causes Mavericks to be slow.  At the time Apple will be so kind to fix Safari on Mavericks, I may consider resuming to use it.

You obviously don't read many threads. Third party conflicts have been the main cause of problems in every OSX update released and addressing them has cured more banged up systems than anything. So perhaps take time to read through the forums properly before making such ill informed comments. Apple cannot fix other developers incompatable software, so don't hold your breath thinking they will or can.

Of course I do not read threads.  That is exactly why I'm paying premium money to Apple so my computer "just works".  If Apple discontinues to behave like that, I will explore the alternatives.  My computer MUST work for me, not the other way around.

The Good News! You have two alternatives, Windows and Linux

The Bad News! You actually have to do some things yourself to ensure your computer keeps working well.

Noone is responsible for how you look after your computer except YOU.

Oh, and if you are going to come here and post, try reading the post you are commenting on first.

For complete clarity I will repeat the symptoms I were experiencing, for the last time.  Shortly after uprading to Mavericks, my MacBook Pro slowed down to a crawl.  That had never happened since upgrading from Leopard.  By virtues of intuition and experimentation, I noticed that if I do not run Safari, the laptop runs as fast is it had always used to run.  The next step was to replace Safari with Firefox and life is good since.

Now let us go on with the "fan boy games" and with the "blaming games", please.

Please stop thread jumping and confusing the original posters thread and at least have the good manners to start your own thread with your own issues described there.

eugen_nw I suggest you move to the Windows 8 platform as soon as possible. Doing so will solve all your problems that are Mac related. The Mac community will sorely miss you but will somehow surrive.
