My MacBook Pro 13' 2010 was stolen, I found the location of it on find my iPhone, contacted the police and they wouldn't come out to file the report, I then told it to play a sound and lock. If my Macbook is locked, will it be able to find wifi or report to me where it's located? Also if its locked, can I unlock it myself to allow them to access wifi so I can track it? Please help.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), iOS 6.1.4

It has to be unlocked on the computer itself, can't be done remotely. It will still be able to connect to known Wi-Fi networks, but if none of your preferred networks are available, they cannot unlock it to connect to a new network.

So if I have it set to lock when it comes on, can I cancel that lock or like you said it would have to be on the computer itself?

You can't cancel it. It has to be unlocked from the computer itself, you're right.

    Hey Man,

My MB pro got stolen last week and I am in the same boat as you. The MB is locked and I know the location of where it was last found after it was stolen. The cops told me that its an approximate location and it wouldn't be a good idea to go knocking on the door of all the houses in the neighborhood. I am waiting for it to show up again on "Find my iPhone" but it has not shown up in last 4-5 days. I am not sure if the theif can connect to the internet again after it is locked now.

Did you have any luck tracking yours??

Same situation my MB Pro was stolen last week, using find my iphone I set it to lock when it came on line and play a sound. Today I got a message saying it had played a sound and locked, but no location, or last known location.

Apple are very vague about this in the help file, and I would hope that before locking itself down it sent a location, as at that time it was connected to the internet? Or is it as I fear, the computer locks itself without telling you where it is?
