Q: Airport Extreme Safe for my Cat to Sleep on?

Have a 5th gen or so Airport Extreme base station that's on 24/7.

My cat seem to like to sleep on it for the heat I guess.

QUESTION:

Are these things safe or will it radiate my pet with harmful rays if she sleeps with it?

I would not recommend allowing a pet to sleep on your AirPort Extreme for at least two reasons:

    1. Even though the radiated RF energy is low when the base station is "idling" any RF energy absorbed at such a close range can not be good for your pet in the long run.
    2. The AirPort was designed to radiate heat. As you can imagine your pet will act sort of like an insulating blanket. Excessive heat is known to damage electronic components over time.

I think the cat will get what it deserves.. but really the RF output is too low to worry.. (don't need the cat desexed.. ?? if only!!) but your signal might be poor to the rest of the house.. The cat would be neatly absorbing the signal you need to use -g.

Absolutely.. these boxes are already on the edge of thermal meltdown.. adding to the heat load is not helping.

Make your cat an alternative.. a bed with an old electric blanket. It will soon figure out which is the best.

Glue some spikes onto the top of the AE.. !!
