I've got the email aaand it says that they've ran hardware tests (Apple service diagnostics, video system test and some practical tests), and software tests (working from outside OS and OS prophylactics). In conclusion my computer has had software problems. That's it. Well we'll see from now how it'll behave. Now it's working almost as it was with snow leopard and i'm thinking about installing more ram. I hope that I won't see them soon.

aaaaand it paniced again. Please, someone, obviously, more competent than those boys form the ASC, to look at the panic report again.. I don't know what to do

I can't see any third party items in that panic, did they reinstall the OS at the ASC?

If they did & you haven't added much software I'd go back and specifically ask about the hardware issues with this model (see Linc's earlier link).

I've explained to them exactly what the other guys told me in first place here, they couldn't run the video diagnostics in front of me so I asked them after they returned it to me why this happened and if were they able to ran it, but the answers were.. yes, of course. And they took me money. They also explained to me that there's some kind of ASP "register" where all ASPs upload the information from every diagnostics they've done to Apple's products, some kind of option, maybe on Apple's site, but I cannot find it. I'm very disappointed, they've told me that everything is fixed and they've blamed it on the software, but obviously it's not. To who I can turn to, to tell me what I can do from now on? I love my MBP, but I don't want it to shut down wherever it likes.

Are they an Apple store or do you have one near you? Is it still in warranty? If it is I would contact Apple. Otherwise contact the ASC again and see if they will look at it properly. If they are Apple certified they should be able to order parts etc.

Another option is to install 10.8 or earlier if that seemed to well work before, but that doesn't alter the potentially bad hardware.

@CarrionFairy: I am so sorry that you are still having computer problems. I would highly recommend that you that your MBP to an Apple Store Genius. Bring your receipt and the email that the ASP gave you regarding kernel problem. Apple is very understanding and customer focused and they will help you resolve this problem. Good Luck!

Please, check at the following posts and give me some advice, you seem competent and I'm in very sticky situation. I'll be very gratefull, Oh and we don't have in our country Geniuses only ASP.

  • 23. Re: Problems with Mavericks - incredibly slow/ Kernel panics
    madrich Level 1 Level 1 (120 points)

Try doing a Safe Boot, or login as a new Guest User. See if the Panic Kernel occurs. Keep in mind that your computer will react slower in the Safe mode. If it does not occur it would seem to indicate that a nonApple, 3rd party software could be the cause.

  • 24. Re: Problems with Mavericks - incredibly slow/ Kernel panics
Drew Reece Level 4 Level 4 (2,195 points)

CarrionFairy, have you installed any software since the machine was reinstalled? You still haven't confirmed this is what the ASC did.

madrich, the GPU panic log doesn't show any 3rd party items as far as I can see. EtreCheck will list them, however this model of Mac can have GPU issues so it points towards the hardware if the service center replacedthe OS.

You really need to get back in touch with the ASP, they didn't resolve your issue, and if you keep waiting they may lose the will to help you (there may be a short warranty or period that is covered after a service).

  • 25. Re: Problems with Mavericks - incredibly slow/ Kernel panics
    CarrionFairy Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

I've done safe boot before, the graphical environment was lagging awfully... @Drew Reece yes they've told me that they have reinstalled Mavericks. It seems like we'll have to meet again with ASP, it won't be a pleasure meeting for me at least.

  • 26. Re: Problems with Mavericks - incredibly slow/ Kernel panics
Drew Reece Level 4 Level 4 (2,195 points)

Safe boot will be awfully 'laggy', you can't use that as a sign of anything. The graphics drivers are all running without any of the extra 'bells & whistles', this is normal & happens on all Macs.

All you can do is try the same things that may have caused the GPU panic. Some apps won't run at all in safe mode, test as much as you can, if you can get a GPU panic in safe mode it increases the odds of it being a hardware issue (it's also more info for the ASP to digest).

If the ASP don't seem at all helpful the next option is to call Apple, but that seems like a long shot that will result in more time & probably more cost if they allow you to send it to them for repair, chances are they will refer you to another ASP, especially if it is out of warranty. The known issue may help your case, but it seems like Apple may charge users who are out of warranty.

This thread has several other users with the same model & GPU panics on 10.9 too…

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5512212 (sorry, I thought I had already mentioned this).

I wish there was a better answer, but the clean install indicates the issue is wider than a damaged OS or 3rd party items (assuming you didn't reinstall some bad software).

Did you have any crashes like this on earlier OS', if that worked OK, you could revert to have a Mac that works but it is simply 'papering over the cracks'.
