Dec 17, 2013 9:31 AM in response to chrisrappleby Eustace Mendis,Try a PRAM reset.
- Shut down your Mac.
- Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
- Turn on the computer.
- Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
- Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
- Release the keys.

Dec 17, 2013 11:35 AM in response to Eustace Mendisby chrisrapple,Thanks, but resetting PRAM did not work. I tried twice just now.
The system very clearly wakes up in "built-in display-only" mode, maps all windows to it, then wakes up the external monitor and relocates the windows there...using the built-in display geometry.

Dec 19, 2013 1:24 PM in response to chrisrappleby kmarchand,I have the same issue. It's not a great solution but I found that changing the arrangement so that the laptop screen is above the larger external monitor seems to let windows on the external monitor keep their size after waking from sleep.
