Q: Mavericks - Dock not showing on all screens?

One of the marquee features of OS X 10.9 is that the dock is now present on all screens ( http://www.apple.com/osx/whats-new/#multiple-displays ).

That doesn't seem to be the case for me.  I have a mid-2011 27" iMac with two external monitors; the dock only shows on what was designated as the main monitor under OS X 10.8, the center one.  The other two displays don't ever show the dock, even if that's the active monitor.

Doing a "killall Dock" in Terminal doesn't fix the issue and neither does restarting the computer.

Anyone experiencing something similar or have a solution?

Go to the bottom of the screen and bring the mouse downwards as if you were trying to pass by the bottom of the screen. This will trigger the dock right away. You just need to do it once to ativate each of the screens, once the dock is active you don´t need to do it anyomore on that screen. It works both with trackpad and mouse.

No need for clicks, bumps or changing the screen arrangement.

Actually, it looks like many have ended up here just for that reason and the solution is much appreciated. If there is an entirely different thread for this difficult to describe and quirky problem I think many have had a difficult time finding it. Merry Xmas.

I think this is a flaw/bug in Mavericks, that happens only when on multiple displays.  While I am working on something on the primary, the dock hangs.. and then out of no where it just switches to the opposite display.  Then i have to go to the other display, and bring it back to the primary.

I don't know if my advice will help.

I experienced all kinds of crazy behavior before I reprogrammed the muscle memory in my left index finger which I use on the trackpad. There's a millisecond dependency. You need to drag through the dock feeling like you end up about an inch below it and then pause for a few milliseconds. Once this becomes second nature the problem goes away.

This is what I call gremlins, they affect your experience and disconnect your mind from your actions. Now I have no trouble with the dock.

Your display switch does sound like a different problem but I had many theories the first few days but now it works fine.

Why all this sub second timing is necessary in Mavericks is a mystery.

well I can't get either the dock OR the menubar on my second monitor (unless I set it as primary)

Tried all the tricks suggested in this thread - nothing , nada, und nowt

I remember at first my Mavericks had my displays reversed.

There's faint hope that this suggestion will do any thing but open Sys Prefs, Displays and mess with it.

Move display here there, fool with the menu bar at the top.

    Mirror displays, unmirror displays....

I've found in the past sometimes that to set a configuration that has no configuration dialog you just need to change things and then it updates something getting it to the proper behavior.

Like I said, faint hope, you also might toggle other things like where the dock should be, show, hide, magnifications...

I read this whole post looking for clues, I could not reliably control which screen the dock was on, and I only really want it on one, not all.  Anyway, your post was they key for me but I want to add something.  I can force my dock on a specific screen 100% of the time now.  I find that if I throw the pointer down to the bottom but lift my finger as if I'm flinging it, it does NOT work.  I have to leave my finger engaged on my trackpad and your millisecond and "about an inch" tips work perfectly.  Thanks.

The dock is hidden. That's what I found out. Just hover the mouse over the area where your dock is supposed to be and it will appear. If that does not work for you, bring the cursor down below the level of where the dock is supposed to be. It will pop up. The dock will only appear on one screen. You will notice that when the dock does appear on the screen you want to become active, the dock disappears on the inactive screen.

Great thread.  So has anyone figured how to get the dock on multiple screens automatically in Mavericks...  Thank you...
