Q: Apple mail does not sync with gMail

Today my Apple Mail no longer provides me with my gMail in the inbox.

I can send mail to my gMail address and it shows in the Sent box ...but it never makes it to my Inbox.

If I log directly into Google Mail the email message is there.

This has always worked before.

Also, just now I downloaded and installed the Apple update for Mail ...which said it fixes some gMail account issues ..but I still have the problem.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

After installing the upgrade to OS X 10.9.1, I am noticing some improvement, but Gmail is still not working like it does under Mail 6.6 in OS X 10.8. Sometimes the emails get synced really quickly with Gmail and other times, they do not get synced at all.  As a result, I am still not upgrading to Mavericks on my iMac which I use for my business.

Concur. 10.9.1 did not fix the problem. Specifically, messages deleted from Gmail directly are not reflected in Mail 7.1

I have several email accounts of different types that I interact with using the Apple Mail client.

One account is a Microsoft Exchange account.

Two accounts are IMAP accounts with Google.

Two accounts are IMAP accounts with the Go Daddy Workspace email service.

Afrer reading the posts on this thread, having observed syncing issues with my gmail accounts, I didn't do the trashing of the "mail" folder to have anything rebuild itself.  I closed and re-opened the Mail app and I am getting a progress bar showing email activity with the activity being describe as "incoming messages.... with numbers increasing, such as 1 of 6938 and climbing".

Should users completely remove the Google accounts from this client and go with another client, and if so, what can be done to confirm that mail content related to Google accounts and this client are not lingering on the hard drive?

I wonder what would happen if a person removed all the accounts from Mail then re entered them one at a time. Anyone tried this?

I gave this a try. Didn't help unfortunately. I also tried reindexing all the messages as Apple describes in their support document without success. I'm using two Gmail accounts and two Google Apps accounts on two Macs - one running Mavericks and the other running Mountain Lion. When I archive messages on my Mountain Lion Mac these messages remain unarchived on my Mavericks Mac, making it necessary to repeat the archiving process. Kind of feels like I'm back to the days of POP.

I simply gave up and downloaded Airmail in the App store for $1.99  Works great.  No problems.

Yes, Airmail is continuing to work well for me, too. Actually, I was afraid that the 10.9.1 update had wrecked it as well for a little while because messages stopped going into my Airmail inbox (same behavior as Apple Mail), but it sorted itself out, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The only things I miss in Airmail are a display option so that the email list is above the current message, and a contextual "open link behind mail" option.

I'm still having this issue with Exchange AND Gmail after deleting my huge Mail library, re-adding all my accounts, and completely rebuilding/importing.

Symptom:  Go into inbox, delete a bunch of emails, switch inboxes, return to original inbox... deleted messages all appear still.

Yup, Apple mail broken with gmail.  Installed Thunderbird and was up and running in 5 minutes.  So long Apple Mail...

OK, so once again, Apple and Google are refusing to play well together.

Not sure who to blame here, but this is ridiculous, why can't we get something that just works, it's not that complicated, not asking for the world, just want something that works.

Looks like the "auto update" feature has bitten me too. Since yesterday, Mail (7.1) will not sync GMail.

Short of downloading a seperate mail application or deleting and re-adding the entire mail folder, does anyone else have any other solutions? Preferrably something permanent.

Although I love my Mac and I love GMail, something has to give, I really hate having these issues with Apple/Google not playing well together and we (the end users/customers) are forced to deal with the fall out of it. Just make it work, please.

    Thanks.

I've had enough! Mail and Gmail just don't work well together, no matter what fixes Apple implements, or what tips and tricks from these forums I use. Messages read on my iOS devices continue to show as unread on my iMac (Mavericks). And yes, I do have IMAP properly configured (I checked). It worked fine until I installed Mavericks.

So, I ditched Apple's Mail and I installed Airmail ($1.99 at the App Store). Easy to configure, nice interface, all the functionality of Mail and none of the headaches. It works very well.

    Problem solved!

I would suggest it only shifts the problem to another developer whom has other issues for you to contend with.  My preference by far is for Apple to fix the issue or I may actually have to use Outlook that I have a license for, and I really do not want to go down that route.

Have the same problem with two Imacs and Maverick 10.9.1, Mail doesn't sync correctly with GMail. Had to switch to Airmail. What a shame, Apple.

Recent revews on App Store sound like Airmail has same problems as Mail. Any comments on the App Store comments?

George, I have been using Airmail for a week now, and I have not noticed any problems at all. It syncs without a glitch, it correctly labels messages as read if I read them on my mobile devices (iPad and iPhone), and it handles Gmail labels perfectly.
