Q: move pictures from Aperture to pages

In A3.5.1 I can't move any pictures to pages 5.0 (iWork). Is this a bug or feature??

Aperture 3, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

How are you trying to "move" to pages?

The Media Browser does not yet support importing from Aperture, only from iPhoto, like in all new iWork apps, but you can still drag from the open Aperture window to Pages 5.

The Media Browser in Pages will currently only show your iPhoto library. You could try to open your aperture library in iPhoto and make it the current iPhoto library, to be able to access Aperture from Pages.

See this document for compatibility issues:   About the new iWork for Mac: Features and compatibility  Learn about the new iWork for Mac.

The upgrader will have left the old Pages version installed, so for the time being you colud continue to work with the older version.

I tried to open the A3 library in iPhoto, and it works. But in Media / Photos of pages5.0 it only shows the original iPhoto library , not the A3 library. So this doesn't work.

Sorry, I thought I remembered that it would would work. But I tried again, and with my current Aperture version I cannot find any way to make the Media Browser forget the old iPhoto library. Even trashing it and rebooting does not remove the old iPhoto images from the Browser. They must be cached somewhere.

I spent the last hour trashing various preferences, but that did not help. So we will have to wait for the promised update to Pages, I think.

OK that is it, bad job by Apple. I send them a complaint, don't know what they will do.

    Norbert,

just continue to use the older Pages version. As the document above explained (in veiled terms)

About the new iWork for Mac: Features and compatibility  Learn about the new iWork for Mac.

, the new  iWork is still under developement and many features are still missing. That is probably the reason why the upgrade is free. It gives you the necessary compatibility with iCloud on IOS 7 devices, but not much more. I use the previous Pages version to create and edit documents, and only if I want them on my iPad, I open a copy in Pages 5. The upgrade installer left the older, full versions installed in a subfolder of your Applications folder, for this very reason.

Apple really should not have rushed out this incomplete version, but there was apparently no help for it, since the previous version is incompatible with the new IOS versions of iWork.

I'll wait for the new releases, before I start using Pages and Keynote.

    Hi Norbert,

opening my Aperture-Library (version 3.5.1) in iPhoto 9.5.1, making it the default-library or saving as... didn't work for me too. But I solved the problem this way.

I started iPhoto 9.5.1 while pressing ALT. Then I've choosen "Create New..." (in German "Neue erstellen..."). Check in finder by "Get info", that the new library is of kind "Photo Library", Version "iPhoto-Mediathek 9.5.1" (perhaps in English OS "iPhoto-Library 9.5.1"), neither kind "iPhoto Library" nor "Aperture Library".

Then I closed iPhoto 9.5.1 and opend this newly created library in Aperture 3.5.1. It was empty, of course. Now I took my old Aperture-Library (about 25 GB) and imported it into the empty new Photo Library by drag and drop. Ok, it took hours to finish, but then I had all my stuff in a Photo Library, that can be opened in the mediabrowser of every app of iWork without any problems. The library itself increased a bit (100-200 MB), but I think it's ok.

So try to go the same way. Hope, it works for you too.
